Hi All,

Been wanting to upgrade from flat file to SQL for ages.... but have only just plucked up the courage to look at doing it... is there an idiots guide as to how to do it anywhere? I've been trying to search the forum, the site and WIKI but can't find the definitive answer.

Your help is gladly received.

Cheers,

Michael T

Hi,

There's no real "Idiots" guide to it, because idiots shouldn't really undertake a task like this... It takes a little experience for when all the things that could go wrong go wrong...

There's an E-Blah SQL version available, and that's got a converter from flat file to SQL built in, so just go ahead and try it. It won't trash your existing installation if it goes wrong. The worst thing that could happen is that it won't convert properly and you still have your existing forum intact.

Make sure you're running 10.3.6 to stand the best chance of a successful upgrade. You might have to upgrade incrementally if you're using an old version. Get to the latest of the flat file, and you should be alright when converting to SQL version. Some things might not completely convert 100% as you'd expect though, so if it all goes well, have a click around your new converted forum to see if there's anything out of place, and if so, if you can cope with it if it's something subtle. If not, fall back on your old forum for now... :)

PS, my name's also Michael T. ;)
Regards.

Well, I've had a crack at the install. I can get everything to complete successfully (or so it seems), but for some reason when it all completes there are no messages or users showing up on the new board - plus it will not allow me to log in.

Any ideas?
