Hiya.. I've just installed the Shoutbox on my board.. and I'm getting a 404 error for it.

Any ideas?

a 404 error means only one thing, so its quite simple to fix. It means it can't be found at the path its been given. "not found" so you need to check over your paths again, remember they are case sensitive on Linux servers.

Shoutbox is a tiny lil chatroom type thing, its for people to say hi and such. A quick easy spamming invitation in my opinion but it works well on certain forums.

Sorry but you are wrong, people can't spam it because you have to be a member to post a message. It can easily be hidden to Guests also so Guests can't read it.

I installed it for a couple of weeks and found people simply create email accounts using temporary 15 minute email addresses to verify the account then spam the forum.

My akismet api stopped them spamming the forum but that didn't work with the shoutbox, I removed it after two days... I have a chat room if people want to chat anyway so that's not as necessary...

Alrighty.. so I sorted the paths.. and it's showing up properly. Now I just have a question about the permissions for it. Where's the admin stuffs hiding?
All I get for the shoutbox is "YOUR BANNED FROM USING THIS SHOUTBOX".

???

*pah*.. Now I've broken it again.

I got into settings.php on the server and tried in there. No luck.

The shout box work a treat, I have it on one of my forums, so far never ever had a spam problem and to see it in use have a look at http://www.theblacksea.co.uk/forum/Blah.pl

Woah Nat.. you even have Live Support in there. Nicely done.

I'm newish to Eblah and am slowly (and PAINFULLY) trying to learn how to make additions like that. Thank goodness Martin has been such a big help, I'd have given up by now otherwise.
