E-Blah Community  /  Forum Support  /  Login Bug?
Posted by: phyerboss, May 15, 2008, 3:28pm
Not sure I could call it a bug since Im not a developer. But, I did come across something in which I can login to my forum from the front page but not from the actual LOGIN page. Everytime I do, it tells me my login is incorrect. When its the same exact login I use to get in via the front page's login bar.

Is there something I am doing wrong or missing?

To Martin:
Sorry I was unable to get back to you to continue trouble shooting. The server went down anyways and it became my priority to get everything back up. So far I was able to install eBlah just fine going ahead and running it in a cgi-bin.

Are you able to login at all?

Yeah, I can login. Its just that I have to use the front page's login as opposed to the "Login page".

Also, I noticed that the security login(the one you encounter when trying to update member info*) wont take my password.
It keeps redirecting me back to the password prompt.

What version of E-Blah are you using? Are your passwords encrypted in your member files? If not, you can check the password in your member file with the one you are typing in. I would recommend that you encrypt the passwords on your forum for better security. Someone may have logged in as you and changed your password. Check and see if they are encrypted and let me know.

No, I did'nt encrypt anything yet as its just me on there setting everything up.

Im using version 10.3.5. I tried encrypting using the MD5 option and was met with this:

Fatal Error
Sorry, but an error occurred. If you are unsure about how to solve this error you can contact the system administrator.
Only administrators are allowed to access this section.
This error is logged for security and stability sake. Please contact the system administrator if you have any questions or feel you reached this error by mistake.

And I tried typing in my pass and was hir with the same invalid login error.

Ok, if you can access your member directory on your server, open up 1.dat and look for the password field. If it's not a bunch of random letters and numbers, change it to what you would like. If it is, you'll have to ask Justin how to fix your issue. As for password encryption, the perl module required may not be installed on your server. In that case, ask Justin if you can install the module for it to work. I am unsure of how to do so.

Ok, I changed the password in the 1.dat file and now I cant access the forum at all either way.

Looking at that line, it seems some way or another it was already encrypted. But still, the whole thing is hosed now. So, I'll either start over again or find another as this really seems like a little bug Im experiencing and dont want my users going through it as well. :(

Thanks anyways

Hey Martin,

Yeah, I just recalled I made it last night before I made this thread.
How would I use it?

You need to download it to your PC, unpack it and then upload 1.dat in ASCII back to your Members folder.

If you want me to take a look/fix things then PM me ftp login details.
