E-Blah Community / Question and Answer / Last post in thread button?
Posted by: Combert, December 22, 2006, 6:27pm
Is there a mod, or a way to create a button that will allow you to go straight to the last unread post in a thread?

It's already in E-Blah? You should notice it here. If you mean without clicking though, no. I'm not sure how to do that without using some JavaScript. If you find a good one liner or a good way to do it though, I'm open. :)

I've made it so it should go to the last post automagically now. HOWEVER, it only works in IE7 that I can tell. I don't use Opera, so not sure about it or Safari. I think in Firefox it doesn't wait for the full page to load before running, so it doesn't want to work.

Yes i think you are right that it only works in explorer.
However on my forum i get the "s-new" when there are new messages in the thread, but i don't get the "#num1,2,3 etc." that jumps to the message.
However i wanted something like this:

On each message with /s-new/ (and that you've read AT LEAST) one time, you'll see:
The last message you viewed in this thread was reply number 13.
That's the key. Click on "number 13." and it'll take you to that reply.

Where can i see that? I didn't see it on this thread, i think. Is it a mod a need to install?

No? You should see it at the top of this thread. If you don't, go to Mark As Read on the board index and then wait and see if you get it next time.

i understand that but would it be possible to have the link to say thread 13 in the unread posts page rather than having to open the thread then go to the last post?

It works in Opera and IE. FF won't do it.

Yes, like shown in the image in post no. 3.

That's just extra links. The /s-new/ link will take you to the last page you read. There's no need for an extra "last post" icon. I've always hated it when forums did that ...

I can see that. But it also saves a click.

The problem is, the Message Index would have to load the messages it's showing to get the last # your read. That's why it's not there by default. I've made it where it does it for you in IE and Opera. If anyone finds a way to make it work on FF, I'll try to fix it.

Allright. You have made a great forum, and I don't want to complain.
I don't know how you have stored the # read information or how demanding/time consuming it would be to retrieve it. Perhabs for later versions it could be stored where the Title info is stored.
