E-Blah Community / News / Platinum 9.6 Released
Posted by: Justin, December 21, 2005, 11:40am
So, here's an early Christmas present for everyone. I've been working on fixing a few bugs that arose from Platinum 9.5, while adding a few new features (such as "Quick Edit"). Everything should go quickly and smoothly. If there are any questions or comments, feel free to leave them in this thread. :)
Download NowNote that
this version does
not need to be upgraded (if you are using Platinum 9.5). All other previous versions (and future releases) will need to be upgraded using Setup.pl.

I don't quite understand this.... using 9.5 now....how do you upgrade if you don't use Setup.pl? ??)
This would affect any installed mods too, right?

Upload everything but Setup.pl that the setup docs tells you to upload. :P

I know you said this before, but what is the common.js for again?
...never mind:) It is for the Easy edit (which by the way didn't make it into the 9.6 changelog :P).
Also, can you list the new .css tags that you have added since 9.5. I know there is at least one that needs to be added to all the style sheets on blahdocs...yuk!

Hmm, I don't think I added one.

Neatly hidden drop-down for quick-edit, I thought I'd broken something until I hovered for a moment :)
Small problem for those of using the GB pound symbol £
Enter initial message, GBP £ symbol is fine
Activate quick-edit and message appears with GBP £ symbol appearing as a question-mark ?
Accept and save quick-edit and the question-mark ? remains as a question mark ? in the edited message.
However, if the question mark ? is edited within the quick-edit form to be a GBP £ symbol, then it is saved as a symbol in the edited message.
(Actually noticed a similar effect when previewing this messge, and the GBP symbol appears preceded by an extra character).
Trivial, but I thought worth mentioning anyway. Wouldn't have noticed it normally, but we happened to be discussing house prices today. Guess we should avoid our local currency symbol ;D

My ads are not displaying in the forum. What could be the problem ???

GBP not worth thinking about, info only.
GBP, hash and dollar handling seem to be system and setup dependent too, I was always getting user hassle when I looked after a small business network populated by computer illiterates

Hmm, would I have to save all of my current themes to my comp and re-upload them?

Nope. They will work just fine with 9.6

awsome, ill start upgrading tomorrow or sometime after newyears
Posted by: Craig, December 22, 2005, 5:37pm; Reply: 16
It only takes 5 minutes to upgrade from 9.5 to 9.6. You just have to upload Every file in the Code directory, and the English directory, plus Blah.pl...and common.js and bc.js, and news.js in the Blahdocs directory...so why wait :P
You don't have to run the Setup.pl at all for this one:)

... same problem here with the letters ß, ä, ü, ö (which btw are very common in german).
but 9.6 is really awesome - thanks justin! :)

Yeah, I'm not sure how to fix those. Maybe with some sort of character set. Anyone want to research it? :P

When you first edit the message it is OK, it is after it refreshes that the symbols change. I'm going to have a poke around and see if I can come up with anything.

It works perfectly on my test site using:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
in the <head> of the template.

Hey Sonny, good to see you.
Yep, your missing something, 9.6 allows you to enable and control ads on your boards.
It's all under Admin Center - Main Preferences

Well .. that's why admins can turn it off, haha.

Its just me Justin...I don't like ads, and while you do not abuse it here, I see some people out there over using that feature trying to make money off their guests.
Don't get me wrong, it is a nice feature...and I might add a requested feature:)

I don't love ads either. Google ads have never bothered me though. Right now it's one of the main revenue sources for E-Blah.

Well, i was planing to have ads on my site awhile back. I have so many free websites and free forums i host and the ads there is not fully developed as well. It would be my only payment from my members that have a free forum or website. And i can get clients to advertise there, as well as on my forum. :)
So this could help me a lot.

Heh, the only time it trips me up is the ad after the first post. Very often the ad sits on the bottom of the frame so at first glance it seems like the thread has only one entry.
