E-Blah Community  /  News  /  E-Blah Platinum 7 Interm Release
Posted by: Justin, June 5, 2004, 2:33pm
I am releasing the current version of P7 (the one that is in use here), for everyone to try and use.  It is not on the downloads page as it is still in beta.  However, I believe that it is stable, and ready to be released to the public.  This version includes all the current "Reputation" modifications added to it, however the administrators, as of yet, CANNOT turn this feature off (so if you don't want this feature on your forum ... use the old versions).  Also, the "reputation pack" may contain bugs.  As I said before, it uses the same code as here, so you'll get the "debug" information for reputations (it will show tot: 1.099) -- if you do not want this, don't download this version.  The change log was not included in the ZIP file, but it is below if you wish to see what has been changed since P5.  Remember that I am aiming P7 to be a "major" release, so this is just half of what I plan P7 to contain.  I have several new features I have on my list, so don't be disappointed if your feature isn't there yet.  ;D  The next version may not be out until August, or even as late as December.  Without any further ado, here it is!

Be sure to post bug's too.  Also, there are a select few servers that this WILL NOT work on (if you want to ensure it's NOT your server, login).  If it doesn't work, let me know if you'd be willing to help me send you beta tests when I get it working again.  :P

everything that isn't there yet.

you can create the super software. always there will be the thing that isn't there yet. example: the newst eblah can't tell what will be the lottery numbers of next week.

If anyone had the problem of logging in on a Windows server (or any server for that matter), this fix should fix that.  ;D  This is a P7 ONLY patch.

Just replace the Routines.pl in your current Code DIR with the one in this patch.  Also, if you're running one that works with login/logout, patch yours to make sure that this will not create another bug (it shouldn't).

Thanks goes to A1lostnomad for letting me borrow his Windows server durring the testing of this patch!

One further note.  I changed some code to the Reputation mod right before release, and it doesn't accuratly depict everyone's score.  However, it does get it within about -5/+5 range.  This has been fixed in the current version, however (not released yet).

:o  amazing! now there's no need to log in at all!

As of 6/19/04, I have closed this "version".  I am no longer supporting it, and recommend all using P7 to "downgrade".  There may / may not be bugs in this version, and there have been several occurences of problems with the new P7.  I recommend only installing this version on a TEST SITE.  NOT a production level site!  If you have a production site, and wish to test, PLEASE do so.  It'll help.  :)

I just got Plat 5 for our natl guard family readiness unit and am having probs but the one thing I cant fiund was curious if it is in 7 and that is setting the board as a private board so that unless registered you cant even get to the board. Is that in 5 or 7? I am new to this cgi stuff so maybe im just overlooking soething. I will be reading all the threads to see if questions have already been answered but i try to change the colors and they dont show up and none of my blah code buttons or smileys for messages are working. any threads or info would be appreciated as i am on a deadline because our guys on alert to be called up and i need to get this so they can contact families etc.

On A side note the board looks great and from what i have seen so far fairly easy to admin. Appreciate all your hard work

The colors are done via CSS, you'll have to edit them there (it's in the template).  If you need further help, just let us know on the forums!  :)

Thanks Justin any Ideads why my message format buttons wont click?

Also is there a setting to do to make the forum a private forum where only registered members can get in?
Posted by: Nat, June 22, 2004, 12:48pm; Reply: 15
You make can make a prive forum for just registered members only.
Posted by: ProfLooney, June 22, 2004, 12:52pm; Reply: 16
Thanks I think I am gonna try to install this latest version as he has here before I get in too deep. I did go somewhere and check something that disabled guests from doing something but allowed them to register. Seeing how this is a way for our guys to communicate if they overseas we want to keep it private for family members only and dont want anyone else to be able to view messages or anything only registered users

It lets the users vote for other users on the forum.

I wanna upgrade it to p7 from p5. and is it possible if i dont like it and downgrade it from p7 to p5.

Yes you could do this.. just make sure that you have a FULL back up of your site, then if you want to go back to p5, you can use the back up files.
Posted by: Justin, July 27, 2004, 7:50am; Reply: 23
If you downgrade ... there will be some database configurations you'll also have to "downgrade".

It's the most up to date.  For the rest of the documentation ... it's in the "Read First" directory.
