E-Blah Community / News / Advertising and Getting the Word Out!

We need ... wait, have to ... get the word out about E-Blah!
We've been dormat too long to just be a 17,000 line project that no one uses! We need hits, we need downloads, we need users. I am asking ... or begging ... everyone that uses E-Blah to advertise. Tell EVERYONE you know about E-Blah and try to get as many supporters as you can. E-Blah isn't dead, and we can't make out like it is for any longer!
So get to spreading the word guys! Do whatever you have to. Just get the word out!

Here's an idea Justin and I came up with:
We will hold a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly modding contest for E-Blah modifications. However--we're at a block and we need your guys' help to give us some ideas! We need some ideas to flesh out this plan, and that's up to you, the community!
We'll need all sorts of ideas and plans on how to get this worked out based on how you guys perceive this plan in your mind.
Please post and comments, suggestions, or ideas for this!
Thanks,
Nick

Well I dont know about what a well hit board would be but I think that my board does verywell. There is a average of 50 post a day now and usually two to four people there just about all the time. I would love to advertise for u and push this board, because it is one of the best that I have ever used. I did and do still have a lot to learn on how it works and how to add things to it and I did have trouble getting it up and running, but I would love to be a tester for you or mabe we can just chat on some things about it and how to add mods. I would love to start to do mods for it but think I should no more about and how to run like a champ first.
Truly loved board
Piratetrader
P.S. Thanx so much for this great board and God Bless

I advertised in the Net Marketing Forum, and about 70 people will visit from StartXchange. Lets see if we can get some of them to use it now :0)
LoL am I the only advertiser you know? :P

The only suggestion I have is, develop what I call, a Dum-dum user friendly install/set-up interface that the average Joe-Smoe Windows users can use. If done right, this product can easily be packaged and sold. With the latest MSN changes, many are looking for an alternative, and the potential is there for BBS’s to fill the void. Think about it, BBS’s are really nothing more than a - further integrated messaging type of service, with a lot more options.
Everything needs constant developing, and the object should always be - to make your product more attractive to a wider base of the potential market.
This isn’t the time to be down this is the time to be up. This products greatest opportunity is here, NOW! ;)

Do you have a counter or something on your site? I just want you to be able to notice a jump in visitors.

Nah, I use the tracker for the site (I use the logs and such).

Hi Justin,
As you know we are very impressed with your E-Blah script. We have already created a page dedicated to E-Blah on our site and is linked to from our home page. Included in the page are links to eblah.com, to demo the board in action and to download the script now as well as other things that are on your main page. For those that want to view it
Click Here.We have also installed it on a couple other sites and they love it.
We have also advertised it on a virtual gaming league site that has tons of members. They are using a board that they have to pay an annual fee to use so we told them to come here and get it for free...
We will do more to get the word out. We have a periodic newsletter that we will advertise it in and will add it in all of our outgoing email as well. We have tons of contacts so we will make sure they all hear about it and either use it themselves or point their customers to it.
We are also going to create a tarred zipped version of it for you as well to make it easy to install for people that download it. That should address the issue raised by The Main-Meng for making it easy for users to install. We will send you the tarred version of it when we have it ready.
Don't worry...we will do our part in helping you to get the word out ;D

Thanks! I am highly impressed at the support we got! Thanks everyone! I'm going to try to be releasing a new version sometime within the next few weeks.

Hey, an oppritunity. My robotics group is looking for sponsors. If they get $100 or over then they will put the sponsors name on their T-shirt. If someone is willing to fess up that kind of cash, over 10,000 people will likely see the link and name on our shirts and webpage and robot :). You could contact the right people at
http://www.aim-robotics.org .
I am actually thinking about doing it for my own site :).
I'm going to be revamping the links page on my website, once I finish I'll add E-Blah as a link :D.

Webmasters In Business. If you would kindly pass me a 468*60 banner {gif static or animated} and the URL to point it to, I'll plonk it there.
Send it to me at aainaalyaa at nihongo dot co dot jp
ttyl Justin, and all the best!

PS: Also, if you'd like to go forward in working E-Blah to a higher ground, contact K. Arthur of Mamboportal.com, and see how you can intergrate E-Blah as a component with MOS.

1. I have setup a Webring for e-bah.
If everyone join the webring, the circle will increase and hopefully, it will help to advertise E-Blah around as webring.com has lots of hits.
http://forums.danielck.per.sg/webring2. We can start an E-Blah news letter that has the latest info, user tips and feature hacks. We need a team and cannot rely on Justin alone. :)
What do the rest think?

I'm up for a news letter, but I hate writing sometimes. So, I'd need a lot of help with that if we would do it.

We wouldn't mind helping you with a newsletter Justin.
First we would need to know what kind of newsletter.
- What kind of information do you want to include in it?
- Will the writer get credit for writing it?
- Will we be allowed to add a tag line for promoting our own business?
- Do we write about things we are familiar with or do we need to stick to the subject of the eblah boards?
- How would we submit our pieces?
- When would the newsletter go out?
- Who is your target audience?
- What format do you want our submissions to be in? eg: html or plain text.
- What is the last day for submission to have our writing included in the newsletter?
Let us know and we would be happy to contribute. ;)

I'd want someone to actualy make the HTML newsletter format (that looks really good ;)). And then the newsletter would go out monthly or quarderly to everyone on eblah.com forums. Ads would be allowed I suppose (but the user would have to write an artical). :P

MyWebTeks Host,
I think some of your questions are outta line. This is about helping Justin promote this website that we all use for free, something he has helped us with for free and that we use for free without advertising. I don't think its fair or just that you use this opportunity to promote your services or your own purpose. I do not speak for Justin or represent any part of E-Blah in any way, shape or form, I personally think its just wrong.

Here are my ideas for E-Blah Newsletter:
1. Focus
The purpose is to provide a source of information to inform E-Blah users of the latest development of E-Blah. It will add in spreading E-Blah Forum.
2. Proposed Contents
a. Interesting discussions @ eBlah Forum & Blah Hackz Forum
b. Latest / Featured MOD, Themes, Upgrades etc
c. Featured Tips / Tutorial (Can be user submit)
d. MODing & Theme Contest. (Winners can get a nicely designed badge image)
That is what I can think of. Feel free to suggest more.
3. Title
We may have to suggest and vote for a title for the newsletter
4. Editorial Board
Who would like to be on the board? :)
we need:
a. Someone to collate articles/tips/tutorial
b. Someone to recommend links (see pt 2a)
c. Another person to be responsible for News & Highlights
e. Contest IC
f. An Newsletter OIC to collate everything and send the newsletter for vetting.
5. Style & Format
Format will be in HTML. What we need to sort it out is where to host & archive old newsletters. Is eblah.com open to this? (Justin ;) )
6. Article Credits
Credits should be given to the article writer (That should be the way) Credits include Name, e-mail addy and website. No more than that.
7. Advertisements
Would not be advisable to sell ad space as it is a newly setup newsletter.
8. Work Process
We need more discussion to set the work process and responsibilities :)
9. Publishing Schedule
We need to fix a publishing schedule (once a month/quaterly?)
Do drop in your feedback and suggestions! :)

Hm, I like last Daniel's offer :)
But what may be really important (IMHO), is articles about every code file of E-Blah, and its main functions, so little-experienced users can at least a bit understand how's blah working, that could bring less questions in forum.
And of course perl articles (and maybe web-design).
Making a html-template for newsletter shouldn't be a big problem, and so shouldn't be with finding a host (even if not E-Blah).
Posted by: kingkelly, December 7, 2003, 3:46pm; Reply: 24
How long are these newsletters? You would need to make it so the user can choose either HTML or plain text format. I use the Bat for emails, and it doesnt show the pictures in html emails, so that stuff looks kinda bad.....
Hmmm, you need like an eblah logo
Posted by: Justin, December 7, 2003, 8:32pm; Reply: 25
Well, I'm not the best at graphics. ;)
Posted by: danielck (Guest), December 7, 2003, 9:47pm; Reply: 26
I can help with the graphics.
But is there anyone who can offer a place to host the newsletters?
eBlah?
BlahHackz?
:: hint hint :: ;)
Posted by: Justin, December 7, 2003, 10:16pm; Reply: 27
I'd host them. But I don't want to write them. ;)
Also, I might have a person to do a logo for me.
http://www.elitestudioz.com -- he made that site and logo :).

That is a nice logo for E-Blah!
About the newsletters
Actually, the newsletters is more for informing purpose. To inform E-Blah users about the latest updates for E-Blah and BlahHackz website
Most contents are featured user submit on E-Blah and Blahhackz.
There will be written articles but will be very few unless there are contributions once a while.
As such I would propose that the dispatch of newsletters be done once a month.

Justin:
If you create a section of the site called "Advertise" so that free-loaders like me can go there and get 468 by 60 (and other size) banners, as well as text links and copy, I think that would help boost the advertising of E-Blah.
I speak only for myself when I say that I use E-Blah as a tool. I come here to eblah.com once a month or so to see if there are new updates or bugs that I need to be aware of. However, I do tell anyone and everyone who asks "where do I go to get a cool discussion board like yours?" I tell them, "Go to eblah.com," I say, "if you got a cgi-bin directory on your website, eblah.com is the only way to go. It is idiot proof. I know, because I'm an idiot."
So, please help me help you. Give me a selection of banners and text links and such and I'll get them on my site.

Estwingr,
It is clear that you do not know who we are. We have supported Justin for a very long time and have a complete page on our site dedicated to the E-Blah message board script with examples, downloads and more.
The questions that we asked are questions that any developer would need to ask to find out what the client needs their application to do. It has nothing to do with promoting our own site. We don't charge Justin a single dime for promoting his script on our site and we have ads on our main page as well that point to his dedicated page for his script. We normally charge a fee for anybody to advertise on our site, yet we were and still are so impressed with his script that we do it for free. That is a lot of free advertising for him and the script.
We also offer free support for the script for any of our users that install the script in their site. How many other hosts out there do you know that will do that?
We have always tried to help the little guy when it comes to getting exposure. Particularly when we see they have such a fine product as Justin. We also have neve ever asked Justin for anything in return. He asked for help with getting the word out about his site and script and we did that. He asked for help for getting a newsletter out we offered to help with that as well. Normally we charge in the tens of thousands of dollors to develop a web site and we offered to do everything for free for Justin.
As a result, I don't think any of the questions we asked (which by the way were only questions that we needed to have answers for in the development of the design for the newsletter) were out of line.
The only stupid question is the one that was never asked.
