I can't remember if it was scriptsearch.com or hotscript.com but when I was browsing these two website for a good BBS, I chanced upon E-Blah!

I looked at Yabb, phpboard, ikonboard and some other equivalent BBS and finally decides that E-Blah is the best!

I think I stumbled upon eBlah whilst hunting around for a replacement forum for my Ikonboard forums. Could've been one of the script sites.
Having tried out the other mainstream forums, I too decided upon eBlah for my needs.
Nice one Justin!  ;D

EliteStudioz, wasn't looking for a board then, but when I decided to get one, I had really liked EB so I decided to use it :) I had previously had a forum with phpbb2 and didn't liek ti that much.

Yeah, I just recently tried it myself ... with a site that moved to E-Blah from it.  Dude, phpBB has little to NO features compared to E-Blah!

I heard about it from our Freelancer Forum Administrator for FIIK T1. Its an impressive product! and for the most part easy to use. Justin you are a terrific programmer and Slammer and Fiik T1 Salute you! Keep up the good work and we will try to get that information set up for you as soon as possible. :) You know what I am talking about!

I had tried several boards before, with very poor results. Don't want to knock them here, but they were supposedly highly touted.  ??)  I did a search on Google, and E-Blah came up first. When I went to the eblah website and saw the program in operation, I thought I would try it, also with the thought that the installation might be beyond my capabilities. Documentation for the installation was excellent, and after one question, I was in operation. Couldn't be happier.

It's great!

I found eblah in a different lifetime (windows) and can't quite remember which site it was, but it was for perl CGI scripts.  My jaw dropped outa my skull and didn't bother looking at anything else.  :)

Since then been to a few other boards but don't care for many of them.

If I could draw worth a -bleep- I'd do up an eblah rocks! smiley.

I found it in a roundabout way. A search for "free forum software" led me to http://www.thinkofit.com/webconf/forumsoft.htm#freeware

I tried Yabb and Teemz. I was not happy with these and I was restricted to Perl based cgi boards. I decided to troll the forums and discovered the best way to check out which board software was being used was to check to see what software powered the various boards. I liked the look of one and followed the link to eBlah :)

Sorry, can't remember which forum!

E-Blah took me about 1 hour. And I'm a n00b.  :D E-Blah has alot more features from the way I see it.  :P

I only discovered the eblah forum script from my website host.  Heart Internet - it comes free with their hosting package and they make it auto installable, although it is an old version.  I must contact them and ask them to update it because your new one is very much more intuitive from the admin side of things.

Nice work eblah.  I'm going to be recommending you wherever possible.
Posted by: Martin, October 24, 2006, 3:30pm; Reply: 85
Good old Heartinternet, I have 4 sites with them and support a few hosted there also.

The only problem is that they install with a different file structure than the norm. I normally put things back to the way they should be when I help someone out hosted by them.

Found it on hotscripts a couple of years ago after trying yabb and v bulletin neither of which impressed me or stayed working for long.

Glad I did find EBlah, it's a great piece of software and well supported as over 2,000 members and 2 year in service with only one crash because the webmistress had a brain cramp   :o nothing to do with the software but we don't talk about that can attest to.

Keep up the great work guys!

I wish there was an "I Don't Remember" option...

hmmm......  ??) ??) ??)

I think I originally started out with YaBB... then something happened... then something else happened... then I installed E-Blah.

I have a question for Justin: Why did you program E-Blah?
Posted by: Justin, November 12, 2006, 1:41am; Reply: 88
A.) Bordom.
B.) Wanted to see if I could.
C.) Later on, because I didn't care for the way YaBB was going with things.

That's really the only thing.  And pretty much in that order.  There's diffrent reasons why I code now.  Mostly to releive stress. :P

I had my own forum and  was using another board software (maybe should mentions the name Prob*a*d*) for my forum but was to controlling, too many advertisements, etc, down too much with "Too many connections", wanted to host my own board on my server.

Eblah was rated one of hte highest I could find in research.

I always go for tte best, never settle for second rate..

I think we're one of the few perl forums that are actually still being heavily worked on with releases all the time.  :P  At least with several releases a year.

There really should be an option on the poll: I don't remember.

Seriously, I found out about E-Blah three years ago, and I haven't the slightest clue how! I was using YaBB, and somehow I switched to E-Blah. It must have been a boring day, because usually if a PERL script requires too much work to make it mork, I just abandon it; but not E-Blah. With the new admin panel and other cool stuff, I actually find administrating E-Blah, dare I say it, fun. (Wow, I am a geek.)

I had an old set of forums (phpBB...  less than exciting) and when they went down, I wanted to replace them with something better.  I did a ton of research and in the end I found that E-Blah had all the features I was looking for, and more!  I've been very happy with the forums since then.  My users see new features on occasion, and they see the improvements as well.  I wish I could have found E-Blah years ago...

The sites I used for research were: wikipedia and forummatrix.org.

Some of the things that lead me to E-Blah were the fact that the writers were still active in the software, the built in calendar, and the unlimited nesting of categories.

I found eblah on my old hosting package with heartinternet, they offer an old eblah now. But I've since moved on to bigger and better hosting, and three hosts later I've taken eblah with me. I've been pondering about switching to smf because of the better themes, and a few extra features i like, but after testing smf, its just not eblah and the support didnt seem as good. I'm sticking with eblah.

Googled Perl OR CGI forums.  Found out in the Perl lingo "forum" isn't really used.  You'll just be driven to a forum about perl.  So started browsing free CGI script sites.  That's when I learned that in the Perl vocabulary, they're still being called Discussion, Community, and Bulletin Boards.  Started browsing that category and one had this as a 4/5 stars.

Ta-da.  I'm here. :)
Posted by: vol7ron, April 17, 2008, 2:37pm; Reply: 105
I found the site!  It was on on softpedia.com :: actual link :: http://webscripts.softpedia.com/cat/Discussion-Boards-list-30-1-4-0.html

I stumbled across it today and knew I've seen it before... it's where I found you guys.

It had a "Good" rating and the screenshots looked good as well as "E-Blah is a Perl-based forum system requiring very low system requirements."

Everything else like user features I figured I could build myself.  It's the DIV formatting and the underlying database structure that takes forever.

I discovered an E-Blah forum on the website of a friend of a friend and since I'm needing to resurrect my own forum I thought I would check it out and now I have a tough decision to make as to which forum setup to use as I'm really liking E-Blah more than the one I just installed on my website.

Hi Justin  ;)

It is done!  I rated it a 10 and left my comments.  They should be up shortly.  They will be under the user
mes.

Don't know why I didn't leave comments before...duh!!!  I had rated it a 10 but no comments, but that is fixed.

We all love E-Blah but let's be practical.  It's not a 10 yet.

Designers:  10+
E-Blah:       7.5-8.5

This should not be taken lightly by any means, especially since I'm using the SQL version, which is in Beta stages whereas the flat-file version is much more built up (has more options) and error free.  When will it reach 10 status?  I would say when we include the following:
  • SQL Version is up to date, supporting Oracle, DB2, Access, SQL Server
  • 100% error free, no bugs, no glitches, no errors
  • A whole list of easy-to-install mods (such as point system, games/arcade, reports, and more)
  • Built-in easily customizable templates as well as different forum layouts
  • Possibly AJAX based
  • Possibly have drag-and-drop attributes
  • Available in ASP, PHP, and CFM

In my opinion 10 is the extreme best - it has to do that and then some, for the time.  As of now, I would probably give the new 3.6.9 version of vBulletin a 8.25-9 and they're pretty established.  However they are not using Perl and they are not Free.  So I might even drop them down to a 7.5-8.5

Again, I love E-Blah and I think it has the most potential out of any forumware.  As stated before, once my website is up and I'm starting to generate traffic/profit E-Blah will be donated a piece.

I was a member of a forum that used it, then a friend set up a forum using E-Blah and made me an admin there. I've admin'd using phpBB, and modded on vBulletin but I like E-Blah :)

I found it on a website called forum matrix. They allowed me to work through a bunk of different software, I tried to run several but they all seemed to lack things I wanted and I kept coming back to eblah as being the one I liked.

Just did a dog pile search and E-Blah came up first.  I liked what I saw and I really liked the christian basis for the build.  I'll be installing it on my new site http://www.foreveranglican.com just as soon as I figure out how to do it.  :)

Hi..I found it on Forum Matrix  http://www.forummatrix.org/show/E-Blah. I co-own a homeschooling web site and our forum program is on it's last legs due to be unsupported. I'm looking for a new forum program and I really, really like this one!

I'll be emailing you, Justin, to ask a few questions. :)
