Just spotted an intresting domain name in connection with this recent spat of spammer problems

captcha-bypass.net

Is some sort of a captcha workaround being done?

Someone should do something about scum like that they should be put out of business. The irony is that they use captcha on their own website.

The site actually links to here: http://expertdecoders.com/

Did you spot this perchance?

It shows that there are folk working to deal with the problem, but...

That it also depends on co-operation with those who provide a haven for the servers - and they they have to be 'got' as well

Malware Intelligence Lab from FireEye - Research & Analysis of Zero-Day & Advanced Targeted Threats:Grum, World's Third-Largest Botnet, Knocked Down

I don't have a link now, but a few months back, another major botnet was taken down... activity graphs showed a huge chink taken out of spam traffic, but a few weeks later the level of spam activity had almost resumed.

The problem (as I see it) is that all these take-downs are reactive, so have to wait to see what the spammers are doing, and then act.

Am I alone in thinking that there is fear of attacking them?

They are rich (fines are in the millions against individuals), and they are big-time criminals. The chances of being very effective at taking them down and finding yourself counting the bullet holes in your back appear to be closely related.

I'm sure I have read some news stories that have covered this.
