I have attempted to purge the sessions on my forums but yet there are still loads of files in the directory. Am I misunderstanding the function or is it not working? Would there be any harm in emptying out the sessions directory?

I believe those are either the active sessions or the sessions or the sessions that are recent (in the past 30 days).  Don't delete them.

I do installs for $25 and upgrades for $20.

Not a problem

I was just concerned because there were 4,379 files in the Prefs directory with 3,869 being sessions.
