Bit of a long story, but Neil gave me admin rights to one of his forums, well two in fact. One has always allowed me to carry out admin functions, no problem. The second always asked for a "Administrator Verification Code" as well as my password. The only difference really between my two acounts was that for the second username, I had (by accident) left a space rather than an underscore between the last 2 letters. I set up a new account without a space, against an alternative email address. When Neil was able to find time to validate this alternative account and the new one (without a space) works fine and I can perform admin funtions with just my password. Why so?

That's nothing to do with any space, go the password settings for the account asking for administrator verification, it's in that accounts member panel. You'll see the password and the admin verification, just type the password twice, leave the admin verification boxes empty and save.
From then on, you won't need to enter the admin verification. See screen shot of the appropriate area in my forum.

Still a no-go. How can I enter the old verification code when I don't know what it is? If Neil did give my original account a verification code, he certianly has no memory of doing so? So yes, I can change the password but am still asked for the verification code on the original account... |

Ohhh. you've lost the verification code. I thought you just wanted to stop eblah asking for it.
Open your member file.dat in the members directory. If your member number 4 for example, it'll be 4.dat open that and where it has verifyquick = |81723412309434523| remove those numbers, leaving it as verifyquick = ||
Then reupload of course.
Now when you go to an area needing admin verification, you won't be asked.
Back up your original first, changing some of those values incorrectly could render the account locked out. |

Thanks for this. Now that does make more sense. Only thing is that we do not know how the "verification code" thing came to appear in the first place? Let's just say I will contine to avoid usernames with gaps in them .... ... just in case Seriouly, I would love to try you suggestion but I think Neil would shoot me, lol! I'll pass on the info though, and many thanks again. |

Like I said in the PM, it's extra security which is activated as your site has Login Sessions enabled. You wouldn't get this if it were set to Cookie Only
And it has nothing at all to do with names with spaces in them |

Sorry - the comment was meant to be light-hearted humour. I'll pass the info onto Neil. Thanks again. |
