Hi,
I came back from Holiday on Tuesday and tried to access our forum. I and all the other members are just getting a white screen that says "This script has been uploaded in 'binary' rather than ASCII mode and so won't run. Please re-upload it in ASCII mode." at the top. I put a support ticket in with my Hosting Company and thay suggested reinstalling a new copy which will lose the member list and all the posts. I can access the remote files with my webeditor if necessary. Please can anyone help. the url is http://www.cheddletonmemories.com/blog/Blah.pl
Dave.

Did it previously work? O,o

If you know which script its referring to, then simply reupload it in ASCii mode, most FTP programs allow you to select that from auto.

Make sure you do a back up, and download everything from the server. Then just follow the "upgrade" instrucions, your members should all be OK etc.

Hi thanks for your replies about my problem, how do I back up the forum if I can't access it. Sorry but I'm new to all this. I can see all the folders though when I log in to the site in Namo.

If you can see all the folders when your in your FTP client. You usually have two panes in most ftp clients. One (usually right) is the remote server and the other (usually left) is your local hard drive. If you see the folders, simply select them, CTRL + A to select all, then either drag or there'll be a button to sync them to the local pane.

It's only the members, uploads, messages, boards and Settings.pl you'd want to keep for the new installation. (Possibly mods and prefs too, not sure)

When you've reinstalled E-Blah you should then simply be able to replace these files too..

Backup your template if its custom or modified also...
