I was having the same problem as Martin and didn't understand what you meant by the 1000 by 800 either. 1024 is the standard in my opinion but I usually make my sites around 900-950 wide to accomodate both; though, I usually use 1152x864 or higher.

I see the problem now and what you're saying about the image.  To recreate, you have to "Restore Down" the browser window (make it so the browser is not maximized) and use your mouse to shrink the width of the browser.

The problem as you noted is the fixed width of the image.  The other problem is that you have set a min-width on the other elements, including the wrapper at 775.  You probably want to make that a little wider.
