Hi guys,

I want to set up membership so that when they join, most of the forum becomes invisible until they post an introduction, then once they do that I'd like to manually allow access to the rest of the forum. At the moment I've set up a kind of dodgy situation where they become part of a member group called Please Introduce Yourself with a post count -1 to 4. I've set all the boards so that you need to be the next highest member group (and above) to see the rest of the forum. The only permission Please Introduce Yourself gets is to view the Forum Information board, and to be able to start a new thread in the Welcome section, but not reply. I would prefer it if they were able to reply in their own thread though. Anyway, theoretically they could post 5 threads in the Welcome area and get access to the rest of the forum which any spammer can do. If they do post a legitimate introduction then I need to go into their membership and manually up their post count to the next member level.

I'm finding it hard to explain so I hope you can follow all that! If anyone has a better idea than that, or a mod that will work with 10.3.5 then please share, thank you!

Make a member group for your forum that requires a certain post amount. Then make it so that only people in that group can view specified sections of your forum. It should only allow people with a certain post count to view your protected areas.

Even if your idea seems whack, stick with it and make it happen.

I've done that already but it's not ideal. But if it's all I've got to work with then it will have to do.

Oh, ok. So what you wanted is for their introductions to be approved before they have access to the rest of the forum?

Also, I have a private area set up that once you hit a certain number of posts you can see it and contribute, but I have a member who I'd prefer not to know it exists (a chronic forum troublemaker who posts copious amounts of fluff to up post counts). I'd like to know a way to preclude certain members from seeing certain areas if we deem it necessary.
