Hi, I've just been upgrading from 10.3 to the latest, the forum works fine and i could access it but then i forgot my password, when i hit the password reset it says email address not found.

I've tried editing the 1.dat file, that's me.
It's encoded with MD5 (the password) so i made a new password up, then used a MD5 encrypter to encrypt the new password, pasted that code into the 1.dat file and uploaded it. I then tried to use the new password (unencrypted) and it wouldn't work?

I've even tried copying the 2.dat file which is my moderator contents to the 1.dat file and then logging in with his password. That didn't work either?

Also, if i try to register when i hit the register button i get the following error.

Thanks for the help.

On a side note to Justin: I've noticed that when you make a post you can attach files, but when you make a post and forget to attach the necessary file, when you click modify to go back and attach your file the attach files section is gone? Is their a reason for this?

Yeah, you can't go back and add attachments, the backend just doesn't allow for it.

You didn't replace Settings.pl when you upgraded, did you?

I do installs for $25 and upgrades for $20.

I did, I went through the usual installation then replaced my personal files like template, members, boards etc.... Shouldn't i have changed that?

I have the old one backed up.

But Does that explain the error that new users get when they try to register?

Thanks Justin.

Never replace Settings.pl when you upgrade.  Restore it from backup and things should work again.

OK, i replaced the new settings.pl file with the old one, i lost the new one in the process, so I've lost my paths, the old paths are not valid anymore because I've moved host.

Here is my current incorrect paths
Code
$bversion = 17;

# Directories Sets
$root = "/hsphere/local/home/mysiteftplogin/forum.i-conica.net";
$code = "/home/sites/i-conica.co.uk/public_html//forum//Code";
$boards = "/home/sites/i-conica.co.uk/public_html//forum//Boards";
$prefs = "/home/sites/i-conica.co.uk/public_html//forum//Prefs";
$members = "/home/sites/i-conica.co.uk/public_html//forum//Members";
$messages = "/home/sites/i-conica.co.uk/public_html//forum//Messages";
$modsdir = "/home/sites/i-conica.co.uk/public_html//forum//Mods";
$images = "http://www.i-conica.co.uk/forum//images";
$simages = "http://www.i-conica.co.uk/forum//Smilies";
$avsurl = "http://www.i-conica.co.uk/forum//Avatars";
$avdir = "/home/sites/i-conica.co.uk/public_html//forum//Avatars";
$realurl = "http://www.i-conica.co.uk/forum/";
$bdocsdir = "http://www.i-conica.co.uk/forum/";
$helpdesk = "http://www.i-conica.co.uk/pages/contactme.htm";
$languages = "/home/sites/i-conica.co.uk/public_html//forum//Languages";
$templates = "/home/sites/i-conica.co.uk/public_html//forum//template";
$templatesu = "http://www.i-conica.co.uk/forum//template";
$buttons = "http://www.i-conica.co.uk/forum//buttons";
$bdocsdir2 = "/home/sites/i-conica.co.uk/public_html//forum/";

My new host path thingy is "/hsphere/local/home/mysiteftplogin/forum.i-conica.net"

I can't edit that manually myself because i don't know what/why there are twin forward slashes sometimes and not other times. also, previously the "root" of my forum directory where blah.pl is was i-conica.co.uk/forum/, it is now forum.i-conica.net/cgi-bin/forum/ so im all muddled up with all that. I'd appreciate some help with that, Because now i've replaced that file it wont work at all.

Thanks.

HAHAHA, Thanks so much for the offer martin, you've been a great help in the past but i wanted to figure this out myself. I managed to change all the directories, looking at the old one as a guide to the / or // thing and i sussed it!

It works now! and i replaced my original 1.dat (my account) file so my password and admin verification code was accepted! I'm back in my new updated forum now, Thank so much guys!

PS. I'm a lil' wiser for the experience too

Could someone shed some light on that original "page encoding error" (see screen shot above), in case i encounter that again?

Great that you have sussed it, best way to learn the software.
As for the error, I have never seen this on an E-Blah forum in all the years I've been using it.

Have you seen this before Justin?

That error BTW, i am 90% sure is the XHTML mode in settings. My site is mostly XHTML but my forum mustn't be. It's off now and the error has gone so I'm guessing it was that. That would make sense too.

Thanks.
