I have been in our forum a few times today, having done a few maintenance jobs. Since I never log out I expected to be logged in next time, but was logged out and now cannot log in at all. My .dat file shows 0 bites and whatever I do I can’t replace it with the one I saved a month ago. I tried manually, tried FTP but it will not change.
Can anyone help please? I have my 1.dat file that contains login data.
Regards, Tibor

It happened again, I can't log in. Is there a reson for it that is obvious to anyone? If so, how can I rectify it?
Tibor. |

Tibor, out of interest, when you did log in, did you try and alter any other users accounts? I had a similar problem last week. |

Hello Nat,
No, not this time, but I noticed that there was new member and this was before I had notification via email. As you can see above, Martin managed to put it right last time and I only wish I knew how to do it myself. It almost looks like that when a new member signs on my .dat file gets corrupted, being number one. But what do I know, lol.
Kind regards, Tibor |

Martin, I need your help again please. One of our members can’t log in any more. All her posts are now 38 instead of her name and classed as a guest user. Unfortunately I backed up the members list without knowledge that her account has been corrupted. If I PM her details, would it be possible for you to reinstate her? Looking at other .dat files, I’m not sure what I need to include to making it work. Also, I did a backup of the forum but for the life of me can’t find out where it is being saved. Please let me know the details you want me to PM you. Many thanks in advance. Kind regards, Tibor PS. You can see her posts here: http://igottagilera.co.uk/forum/Blah.pl?m-1188125866/ |

That's sometimes quite simple to fix. When i've had that problem the following has fixed it. "view all members" in admin panel and make sure there isn't the same entry twice. Go to her member panel and check the validation leval. Rebuild members list. One of those has usually sorted it. I've had it a few times... |

This has been caused by a space issue on the hosts server as the .dat file is 0 bytes. Do you have any backup at all? PM her details and I'll see what I can do. |

Thank you again Martin for you kind help. I would still like some answers to the space issue on the server and how it would be possible to resolve it. Also, an answer to what exactly happens when I click on Backup Forum in Forum Maintenance. Where can I find the backup file? I can do a backup every day if need be but how do I reinstate and where from. Can someone please point me to some instruction, please?
Regards,
Tibor |

Most space issues happen when your host is doing backups, they temporarily take up a lot of space until the backup is complete. Once complete, the temp file is deleted.
I could give you a long winded answer about virtual servers and how the space allocations works but it is quite complicated. At the end of the day, your host is the only one that can sort it.
As for the forum backup, if your board is setup properly, AND your host supports GZIP, the backup should be in the forum folder along side Blah.pl. |

Thank you for you answer Martin. I’m getting our site owner to talk to our host (123) to see if the if this space issue can be sorted, though not holding my breath. Also, I can’t see any GZIP folder or anything else on the server that would be a backup of the forum. I’m hoping that 123 will confirm if they support GZIP or not.
Regards,
Tibor
