Niggle 5: clicking an emphasis-mode button causes focus to shift to top of message entry screen.
If you have a lot of text in the message entry window such that it overfills it, and you highlight some area of text near the bottom and click on one of the buttons on the line above the Font/Size Colour line, such as B[old] or I[talic], the focus of the window jumps right to the very top of the text, and you have to scroll back down to the bottom again where you were originally.

Is this behaviour general to everyone's installation, and is there a fix?

Yes, I see that it does happen.  Martin worked a little on this a year or two ago.  I'm not sure anything can/could be done about it though.
