I am setting up a new install for a new forum and getting the following error message:

Cannot write to /Prefs, please check your Settings.pl file and try again.

I have run an install in the past no problem but this one is defeating me! I have checked doubled checked and checked again all the CHMOD settings but still no joy.

Any thoughts

Thanks

You probably have the wrong directory set in Settings.pl for the $root directory.  You may have to ask your webhost for it.

I do installs for $25 and upgrades for $20.

I got the same error message when setting up 10.3.
The first setting page loads and displays: Directory success!
The above message is displayed after submitting.
I checked $root in Settings.pl. By default "." was  its value. I changed it to the full directory path of forum, but still no luck.
Please advise.

You need to set the sub folders of cgi-bin to be writable, your host may need to do this.

Thanks! I forgot to set the owner of forum directory to the one run by the web server. Now it works.
The Setup script may also check this besides rwx permissions.
