EDIT:  I just read the "Read this before you post" (yeah I'm a pinhead)   Version (Latest 10.2.5)
I searched the boards for the issue I'm having, and was unable to find a solution.

First off, I'd like to say this board looks slick.  So here is what I have done so far.   I am on a linux host and i uploaded the .zip file.  I used the unzip -K command to preserve any sticky bits etc, and uncompressed the files into a temp dir.   Then I used the mv command to move the folders into place.  /home/httpd/mysite.com/cgi-bin/forum, and /home/httpd/mysite.com/blahdocs respectively.

I chmoded the files from an ssh session and verified the changes.  Then I opened my browser to the Setup.pl file and ran it.   I had to change my document root to be correct, and then the red instructions dissappeared.

I clicked on "Install new board".  I chose all the default settings.  submitted the form, and got the following error:

Could not write to /Prefs.

I checked these forums and saw some reference to deleting the .htaccess files.   So I deleted both directories, and redid all the steps above, and also deleted ALL the .htaccess files.

Then I ran Setup.pl again.   This time I got the error:

Could not write to /Boards.

Then when I went back re-run it after verifying the Settings.pl was correct, I got a message that said:

Code
E-Blah 10.2.5 Install Sub-system Fatal Error
E-Blah Install and Upgrade System

There was an error installing or upgrading your forum ...
This forum appears to have already been installed.

When I attempt to log into the forum I get the following error. (Using the Administrator Login and default password)

Code
Login Failure
Your login information was incorrect.

      • Invalid Username

I have attempted the install more than 6 times.  I know what I'm doing, I swear!  I am sure I am missing something silly.  Little Help?

Thanks,
-= Daniel

It is much easier to follow the setup instructions @ http://www.blahdocs.com.  I wouldn't upload the zip and unzip it on the server.  I would just unzip it on your local machine, upload it, chmod it, and run it.  Much easier, and will run for sure if you do it that way.

My server only allows SCP, not FTP.    I am not sure I can use "Ascii Mode vs. Binary"  I think it's all Binary.  I will double check though.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Use Putty.

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/

You can upload in ASCII and all through Putty.  Since you are using SSH to login, you'll have to do a CHOWN and CHGRP on all the files (probably change it to httpd or apache).

I do installs for $25 and upgrades for $20.
