The avatar are uploaded with a file attribute of 600.

Changing it to 644 made the avatar show up.

Did I set up my forum wrong...?

What is your Avatars directory chmod'd to?  Try setting that to 777 and try to upload a new avatar under that directory.  But honestly, it could just be the way your web server is configured to handle uploaded files.

If it is setting the file to 600, then it is a server config thing.  You can contact your host and ask them if that can be changed.  The only other option is to write a mod that chmod's the file to 644 after it is uploaded.

Quoted from Nat

Actually that's another problem, attached files do not show and I get an 403 "Forbidden" error when I try to download the file by clicking on it. I checked through my FTP and the file is there in the UPLOADS folder... but its chmod is also 600 !

Yes I asked them and they said I could chmod it with code by modifying the code lol (I know a bit of PHP but I'm a total newbie in Perl !)

Hmmm...just a thought, but delete the .htaccess file from the blahdocs directory and see if that fixes it.

This is a server config problem, this can only be fixed by your host.

My host said it's not their fault and invited me to manually modify the file with a chmod

So I made a Patch-mod that fixes the problem

Great job...glad you got it working.  A bit weak on your host though, but if you learned something, then I guess they helped.
