I tried to install the forum on the server and had success until I saved in the setup screen. I get this error message .

There was an error installing or upgrading your forum ...
Cannot write to ./Prefs/.htaccess, please check your Settings.pl file and try again.

I deleted the .htaccess files and still no go. I cannot CHMOD files on this server and their support tells me it is "Magic" and will automatically write the files for me. They are no help. Can you give me some ideas to try?

Is it a Windows server?  If it is you've got to change the permissions, otherwise you'd have to CHMOD.
