Hello,

is it possible to select a particular language of the forum through the URL?

Is there such a parameter?

I'm trying to have for example French people clicking on a link that would open my EBlah forum in French and Korean people in Korean, English speaking people in English and so on...

Thank you!

Or is it possible through the use of a cookie instead of a URL?

No, but if the user is a Member you could just send the language variable in a <form> like it is on the page in the Member Center.

I do installs for $25 and upgrades for $20.

What I would like is that guests who click on a certain link get to see the forum in Korean instead of another language

Most of the Korean people who go to my forum will just want to leave a greetings message, they do not all want to sign up and become a member... so I want to make the task easy.

Anyway I think I found a solution, I'll do an "English-Korean-French" language pack based on the English pack but with substantial translations in Korean and French all together in UTF-8 format... and using a different color or look for each language by using CSS + with a new ID for each language.
Ex:
Code
<span class=english>Hello</span> ~ <span class=korean>안녕하세요</span> ~ <span class=french>Bonjour</span>

You can see it from there if you try to leave a message http://taekkyon.fr/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?v-post/b-forum_7/

I have written a mod based on cookies for changing the language through URL a few years ago, but I didn't upgrade it since E-Blah Platinum 8.3. If you are really interested in it, I may optimize it for current version of the forum as far as possible.

Here's something I played with a few month's ago. It uses Google Translate, not sure how accurate it is.
Still trying to automatically get rid of the top frame.

Nice try
but the translation from English to French is simply awful and inaccurate lol
it's non-understandable and laughable at best

It's definitely not ready to be used, unfortunately.
Anyway thanks for the link.

However it seems it uses a cookie or so to store the language... which could help me do a similar drop-down select menu to allow a language choice...

would you know by any chance where I could get the code of this mod?

That's the reason I gave up on it, it seemed too inaccurate.

It isn't a mod, it's just a form and doesn't create a cookie.

Working on another method, only problem is not having up-to-date language packs and you have to refresh after saving.

Now fixed the refresh problem.

That is correct. If you look at http://www.opportunitynowhere.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl? now, you will see a new language selection dropdown. The only languages that are updated to 10.2.5 is Romanian & Russian, the rest will translate 80% but no buttons will show as the packs are from earlier versions of EBlah.

That's very neat, but how does it memorize the selected language from a page to another without using cookies or URL parameters?

JeanSebastien, please, try this mod:
http://www.eblah.com/forum/m-1180200998/

My language panel includes national flags for English, Romanian and Russian languages, but if you need some other flag images, just let me know.
