This is just a quick message to those who like me kept getting those 500 errors when trying to install -

Get firefox and download fireFTP! it works great.  Before i was using smartftp and sometimes it wouldnt CHMOD the files right leaving me to go through everytihng again and sometimes still not finding the right file.  Last night i uploaded and installed eblah in less than 10 mins and not a single error.

So for those who find it hard i recommend using fireFTP.

For god so loves the world that he gave his only begotten son the who ever belives in him shall not perish but have everlasting life

I've had quite a few problems with Fireftp...

Whilst it's handy if you've no other choice... it's not as good as a standalone ftp client like CoreFTP.

I would suggest FileZilla. It's nice for a free open source FTP client. It has a lot of the features of a commercial program, just less of them.

Even if your idea seems whack, stick with it and make it happen.

Ive used many of them...

SmartFTP - I will NEVER EVER use it again
FileZilla - Good... but I had to enter FTP login details every time
FlashFXP - Best one Ive ever used... but its $$$

When I want to install script, I usually upload ZIP and extract it with cPanel's File Manager No need to waste time on uploading each file!

It depends, if you are restoring a large backup then yes, uploading the gzip is the best.  I've done that many of times.

I do like SmartFTP, though I do admit that it's started to make me a bit mad due to their "pay every year" model.  And my server doesn't even allow FTP anymore, so I have to use SFTP.  lol

I do installs for $25 and upgrades for $20.
