Hello,

I've just successfully instaled E-Blah on my host's server (Win), well nearly so. I came as far as step 3 in the setup procedure - where it has attempted to remove Setup.pl and asks that I refresh to make sure it's gone. At this point (as I refresh), it returns a CGI error (incomplete headers).

Furthermore, I can't seem to remove Setup.pl through my FTP program ("550 [...]/Setup.pl: The system cannot find the file specified."), despite the fact that it lists it clearly enough. I can't run it either (incomplete headers).

Also, since it didn't take me there automatically, am I correct in assuming that I run 'Blah.pl' to activate the forum?

Thanks in advance,
Nongolf the Novice

Run Blah.pl, correct.  Setup.pl has been removed.  You are probably getting a caching error for the Setup.pl file.

I do installs for $25 and upgrades for $20.

Thanks for the quick reply

Setup.pl was removed - must have been a glitch in the FTP program or sumpting

I'm not sure what to do about that cashing error. Like I said, I'm sure Setup.pl is gone, and I've actually rebooted my whole system to get rid of any lurking cashes - still, I get the same 'incomple headers' CGI error back.

Thanks

The incomplete headers would be normal.  It's running IIS probably, which is probably calling perl.exe c:\forum\Setup.pl and then perl is telling IIS that it can't find the script.  Most servers check to see if the file is there before executing, but some do not (or yours may not be configured to do it this way).

The server is running ISS - it's not mine though. Not sure what configuration it has in the 'detect-file-before-executing' department

I'm very happy that you reply so rapidly, but I fail to see a solution to my problem here.
Should I reinstall and hope perl won't call setup.pl when it's not supposed to?
Should I somehow tell perl where to find the script?
Should I yell at my webhost? In this case, what should I be yelling at him?

Thanks again Justin!

Hehe. I guess I should have mentioned that.
I'm still getting the 'incomplete headers' CGI error when I run Blah.pl.

Sorry.

In Blah.pl remove the # before the use CGI::Carp fatalsToBrowser;  ...  then try to run Blah.pl.

mhm! So far so good.
I got back:
Code
Can't locate Settings.pl in @INC (@INC contains: C:/Perl/lib C:/Perl/site/lib .) at C:\W3Sites\bkkysten\www\cgi-bin\forum\blah.pl line 39.

Replacing merely 'Settings.pl' at line 39 with an absolute path to settings (same as for blah.pl, obviously), I just get back that now it can't find that absolute path.
This is just about where I have to yield to the experts. Enter Justin

In Blah.pl change it (Settings.pl) to:

C:/W3Sites/bkkysten/www/cgi-bin/forum/Settings.pl

Just copy and paste that in and you should be good to go.  If you already did this, make certain the \'s are changed to /'s.  If they aren't it won't work.
