WARNING!
Your forum may not work properly if you continue. Setup recommends editing the path to directories in Settings.pl and then refreshing this page until this message disappears. There was a problem verifying that the following directories exist:

Avatars Currently set to: /home/blahdocs/Avatars
uploads Currently set to: /home/blahdocs/uploads
template Currently set to: /home/blahdocs/template
The following may help you figure out what your paths are:
Document Root: /home
Script name: /home/httpd/vhlinks/www.zl4aa.org.nz/forum/Setup.pl
Please note that not all server report the above information correctly.

Is the message. I'm new to installing CGI, I can't run it in a folder called cgi-bin but set it up in the folders and blahdocs folders, my webhost company changed some permissions for me so the pl files would run vs getting a server error, now I have this prob.

Cheers

Paul

Just edit your Settings.pl and change the settings for $bdocsdir2 = "$ENV{'DOCUMENT_ROOT'}/blahdocs";

to this:

Code
$bdocsdir2 = "/home/httpd/vhlinks/www.zl4aa.org.nz/blahdocs";

If you edit the file with your ftp program, make sure you edit in ascii mode.  If you edit on your local machine, make sure you upload the new file in ascii mode.

If that doesn't work, let me know and I can take a look at it for you.

There was an error installing or upgrading your forum ...
Cannot write to /Prefs, please check your Settings.pl file and try again.

Well success of sorts, it passed the path test but then canned out when I tried to hit save

Well I blew out all the dirs and reinstalled the files, set the chmod for files and dirs as per the docs
Ran the setup.pl got the same /home dir error,, changed the $bdocsdir2 = "$ENV{'DOCUMENT_ROOT'}/blahdocs"; to the suggestion from Craig, got an error that said could not write to /prefs, edited the settings.pl and changed the value of root to "/home/httpd/vhlinks/www.zl4aa.org.nz/forum' and removed the .htaccess file and tried again, got an error saying could not write to /boards, removed that dirs .htaccess file, then reran setup.pl and got an error saying fatal error the forum already appears installed. Phew.

Ran blah.pl and get a startup screen, tried to log in as admin and it does not recognise my username/password
tied to create a new user which the system accepted. but again said invalid username when I tried to login.

So progress sortof but very frustrating as I'd like to use your software with my club site but hitting brick walls now

Strange business with the errors. sigh

Go to the Members directory and download 1.dat and check the screen name and password.  If it's longer than 8 characters it won't work (until you convert the passwords to MD5).

I do installs for $25 and upgrades for $20.

You have to set the permissions for all of the directories the same way you did Prefs.  Go back and do this, then install and it should work.
