I uploaded the required files and attempted to define the permissions, however I am not sure that I did it correctly.  The following note suggests that I did not, "Directory Success!
Setup has verified that all the directories appear to exist on the server (they may not be writeable though)".  I went ahead and clicked finish install and received this error,
"Cannot write to /Prefs, please check your Settings.pl file and try again."

I looked at the permissions in my ftp client and the Prefs folder appears to have read/write permissions for all three groups.  And the only changes I made to the settings.pl file was to update the root and bdocsdir2 locations.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Delete the .htaccess files in /cgi-bin/forum and all sub folders, they will replaced during the setup.

Thanks for the quick reply.  Deleting the htaccess files did not help.  I get the same error.

As far as I know, the server is Unix.  In the faq for the server, there is info on file permissions in Unix [http://www.sonic.net/support/faq/advanced/modes.shtml].  Otherwise, I am not sure.

I went to change some CHMOD directories to 777 and it turns out that I forgot to CHMOD the forum directory and that fixed the problem.  Thanks for the help.

I ran into some other issues and the "use CGI::Carp fatalsToBrowser;" feature worked.

Now I have a working forum with no theme, but I know I've seen that fix in another thread in the last few hours.  I'll keep searching.  Thanks again.

Did you have any red box warning when installing E-Blah?

I did have a red box warning, unfortunately I do not remember what it was in reference to.  It was a pretty common error.

If you had that error, it would be best to fix it there.  Now you've got to go through trial and error to figure out what your path to the templates directory is.

I recommend reinstalling, and getting rid of the red box.  You should never install with that error.

If you don't want to reinstall, you'll need to at least know the path to where Blah.pl (the full path).

I believe that I fixed the red box error before proceeding.  I am pretty close to agreeing with you that a reinstall is the way to go.  Now that I understand the process a little bit better, it should be smoother.

One question before I reinstall.  I am able to get into my themes manager, which states that the X2 theme is the default. When I click on it, the theme editor appears with the expected info (title description, author, etc.).  This includes a lot of info in the html templates box.  I am attaching a txt file that contains the info.  Of note, to me at least, are a few spots with onclick="target='_blank';"><img.  My guess is that blank should have something.  If there is a simple fix related to all this, great, otherwise I will reinstall and hope I learned something the first time.  Thanks for the patience.
Dave

Go to Admin/Settings and change the URL path to blahdocs and the other blahdocs directories to reflect the right path.

Your directory path is right now.
