I think archiving is one area which can be improved a lot.

When I select auto archive option for a category (30 days), the thread gets locked after 30days so that no one can post.

My question- Is the thread compressed and locked or just locked.


It would be nice if  archives in a category are arranged by monthly?

I know small forums prefer purging after 50 days. but say in big forums people don't prefer purging.

Taking EBlah as example. If you see the chit chat category, the pagination goes all the way to 40+ pages and the pages will increase with time.

If its archived by monthly or 60 days, it would be 3-10 pages of current threads(i.e from last 30-60days) followed by 1-2pages where archives are listed by monthly. The board will look more clean in my opinion like this.

I am not sure if I was clear, will try to simplify more if needed.

I know what you mean, but I'm not sure.  I've never liked the way other forums do it.  However, the SQL version would be much easier to do this with ... so I could try it one day.
