I just successfully installed the forum to my site, but then I tried to change the URL from http://www.shaoforum.net/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl  to http://www.shaoforum.net/forum. All I get is an index page. Can someone help me solve this problem? I'm using a windows server and installed the latest version. Thank you!

What is in your .htaccess file?

This is what I have in my .htaccess file.

Options All Indexes
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /forum/
RewriteRule ^(.*) /cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?$1

I deleted the second line to see if that would fix the problem, but it's still the same.

Do you have .htaccess enabled in the Apache configuration file?  Also, the latest version is Apache 2.  That's what I've been using.

I think it's the AllowOverride and the name you're looking for.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. I really don't understand PERL language.

Okay, I tried to reinstall everything and start over. When I made the forum file in the root directory and put an .htaccess file in there, I was able to load the URL: http://www.shaoforum.net/forum. However, none of the links on the page would work... only the home page worked. Then I followed the instructions to edit the Blah.pl file. After I editted that, all I got was the 500 error. Am I missing a step?

Do you have access to the Apache error logs?  They usually show the exact error.  It could be anything.

That's probably a different problem.  As I said, error logs would help a lot if you can get them.

Do this and see if it works for you.  Change your .htaccess file to this:

Code
Options All Indexes
IndexOptions FancyIndexing

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^(.*) /cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?$1

Note, if your path to Blah.pl is not /cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl as listed above, then you will need to change that to the correct value.  Also, that file more than likely needs to be chmod'd to 755.

Now edit Blah.pl and set your values for Filename information to this:

Code
# Filename information
$scriptname = $scriptname || '/'; # Change name of Blah.pl
$modrewrite = $modrewrite || '';       # Setting, mod_rewrite: on = '' | off = '?'

Let me know if that works, and I will add it to the blahdocs site.

-Craig.
