I would suggest to modify a theme such as the X theme. It is very hard to start from scratch if you are a beginner. I have created several themes from this theme and have also learned a lot about the code that goes into a theme.

I'm not exactly a beginner but I'm not an expert either.  Is the theme for this board available - I love the green color on here.

Justin says that the theme for this board isn't distributed. You could probably make one similar to his though. Just match the colors you see to the X template.
