I support the version - from all the benefits you've mentioned it sounds ace, just as long as I can get it installed and use it without having to upgrade my webhosting to get SQL databases

I think you should continue working with SQL version even though it takes some time. I know lot of people on this forum don't need it and are a bit pessimistic about it as I can see from lot of messages. But if you want to get noticed and bring more potential users to EBlah, SQL is the way. Now you have roughly 1500+ downloads for the current Eblah v10.2. I think this downloads would definetly double when SQL version will be relased.
I request you to not scrap the sql version project |

I am undecided as I doubt many people will have a clue what to do when they see SQL errors as they are not exactly written in English. |

I'd like to throw my hat in the If it aint broke, don't fix it box.
SQL on a hosted server is a pain if there are problems, and I've set up E-Blah and got it running inside the usual hour (inc a bit of appearance tweaking) while those I failed to talk into it are still fighting with a certain other php offering for the best part of a week of spare time before going live. |

Hi Justin.
You will probably burn out trying to continue to develop and support 2 versions. The one reason I chose eBlah was its flatfile database. After becoming frustrated with the complexity of several SQL-based forums, I was thrilled to find eBlah. If you move forwards with the SQL version, please don't let the flat-file version suffer!

I posted this to the admins, but it can be repeated here:
Quoted Text
I've been thinking about it a little today. I've moved just a few more things over to SQL, but what I think I'm going to do is just continue the version already running here. I like the SQL modules I got [working], so hopefully I'll be able to put them to use somewhere in [later] projects. What I want to do is try to move on to something else, another project. I don't mean kill E-Blah or anything, I still plan to maintain it. What I do want to do is try to move to another project or two, but what I'm not quite sure of yet ... . So that's my thinkings. The SQL move was something I really thought would be nice, and I'm surprised it got as far as it did; but turning a project like this completely over to another database system is difficult and the implications that could result -- I'm just not prepared for.

I don't understand when people talk about complexity in SQL forums. If the installer installs the SQL tables for you in the database, It is straight forward like any other script. The only problem is whether your host supports SQL or NOT. From the current scenario, looks like Justin is not getting enough support from other people on Eblah Project to push forward the SQL version But the advantages for the new SQL version would be Speed, Reliability and wider acceptance. This should not be ignored . I hope Justin will not give up although I understand that he needs more support for the version to be complete. Either way will wait few more days/weeks on how this issue progresses. |

It's also very time consuming. I could probably release a very stripped down version it.
Even though it takes a month or two we can wait as long as the project is not scrapped completely |

If I release it the following will be removed (in addition to what has already been noted): - Pruning - Calendar (completely removed) - Thread rating - Recommend thread - Invite people - Portal (shownews / XML is still there) - Backup In a sense, it'll be a liter version of E-Blah ... but still look quite complex. |
