http://66.190.248.253

That doesn't work.  It's his IP.  I think that redirect is from the domain.  The domain is showing a diffrent ping address than his actual IP address that he's using to post here.

I do installs for $25 and upgrades for $20.

<META HTTP-EQUIV=Refresh CONTENT="0; URL=http://wantdesk.com/cgi-bin/forum/blah.pl">

That's all I now have on my Apache server in file C:\xampp\htdocs\xampp\index.php

The DNS CandangaInternet has my url wantdesk.com directed to 192.168.1.7

Beyond that I don't know -- how would I open up port 80?

dns for wantdesk.com needs to be set to 66.190.248.253
do that and the redirect will work fine, once you open up port 80.
logon to your router and goto port forwarding/triggering and set port 80 to forward to 192.168.1.7
also while your logged in to the router, it would be a good idea to set a static route of 192.168.1.7 to the server so that anytime the router or server reboots it gets assigned the same ip address every time.

Ok, thanks.  I'll update the DNS now but the router will have to wait.  I don't have anything that can be logged into in my home.  I share a connection with my neighbor and the router is at his place so it'll probably have to wait for daylight.

in your address bar type in 192.168.0.1  (or 192.168.1.1  depending on brand)and you should see a login screen.  if your buddy didn't reset the login, it will be either user=admin pass=(leave blank)  or vise versa

The rest has to wait for my ISP / neighbor.

Ok, I talked to my neighbor and emailed him your advice.  He says he'll have to talk to his friends who know more about the internet so it'll probably be Monday.  He also said his service provider changes the router's IP every once in a while.  I expect that's whenever their system goes down and reboots it reassigns randomly.  So that means I'd need a hacker type program to automatically check my IP address at http://www.showmyip.com/simple/ say once an hour then when it's changed automatically log in to both the router and DNS provider to change the IP at those two places.  Any suggestions on how to write that -- does somebody have some PERL to do it?  I'd guess this problem has been solved before.

Only if it can't be done will I want to go to an external server.  Thanks for the offers.

What about http://www.networkautomation.com/ which I heard about from TechTV?

The problem is they don't list a price which means it's way overpriced.

I don't want to throw away my carefully chosen domain name which http://dyndns.com appears to require as do most other off-site hosting solutions.

So back to my question, can PERL do the job of automating logins and updates?
