i think he's trying to redirect to another server or location within his lan, if he redirects to his ip addy from the index page, it will just go into an endless loop

Yes http://www.wantdesk.com is from http://www.candagainternet.com so there's no secret code to get me to my server.  Within the server I have replaced the xampp front page .html with a refresh tag that goes to my forum.

Thanks for the http://www.myipaddress.com link.  I'll go update the DNS provider (candanga) now.

Update my redirect?  I don't know what you mean if it's not the DNS provider -- unless it's my server redirection to my eblah?  It's slower but I can do that.

I checked out myipaddress and got 66.190.248.253 which is the same for both computers!  So I looked at their further information and they mentioned how I could be behind an ISP cache or something.  My regular computer via control panel / network connections / cable internet connection / status / support says my IP address is 192.168.1.2 and my server says its IP address 192.168.1.7 so I don't know how packets get to the right computer if those aren't my "real" IP addresses since the myipaddress is the same for both.

"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" is the message I get when trying to access http://wantdesk.com after updating my server redirect to the outer IP address.  Since it's not working for me, it can't be working for you.  Can anyone shed more light on this IP stuff?

your ip address for your internet connection is 66.190.248.253, and your router ip address is 192.168.1.1, your computer ip 192.168.1.2  and server ip 192.168.1.7

however, because you are using a router, anything that accesses the internet is seen as 66.190.248.253 because it is being accessed from the router.  you were able to access the server from your computer because it was on your local area network (LAN).  your redirect you setup to your eblah was probably something like http://192.168.1.7/path_to_eblah
so the reason it worked for you is because it was redirected within your lan.  you need to change your forum redirect to something like "http://wantdesk.com/path_to_eblah"  (obviously replace 'path_to_eblah' with the actual url location to your forum)

Thanks!  Well it should be working now then.  I didn't know the hub changes addresses on packets as they pass.  And I still don't know how it figures out the right computer to send them to if the incoming address is the same.  I also don't know how having 192.168.1.7
as the address behind wantdesk.com could possibly get here to my server correctly past the hub or router (there is a cable router between my hub and the cable).

I don't have any education on IP but I would try guessing both addresses have to be sent to applications to get the reply to the correct computer -- even more info. when there's more than one tab with the same application on it.  If that is true, should I put both numbers behind my domain name?

don't use the ip address in the redirect...only use the actual url   http://mysite.com/myforum

if you still have trouble, give me the url to your forum, and i will create a redirect for you

when you send a request to the internet, your computer also sends idenifying data, which the router uses to determine which computer sent the request...then when the info is recieved back from the internet, the router picks up the same identifying data to determine which computer to send the info back to.

it still points to 192.168.1.7....that won't work outside your lan

if you want to give me the url to your forum, i will write the redirect for you.

You might also have to open up a port on your router to allow the outside world to see port 80 on the server IP.

In fact, I know you are.  I just tried going to your IP address and I can't access it.  You'll need to forward port 80 to your server IP.  If you are using Windows Internet Connection Sharing though, you might want to try to get a cheap $25 to 30 Linksys router.
