Is there not a feature that auto sends a PM to new members that admin can edit?

On my forum we have an upgrade system to stop abusive posters and repeat members joining by only allowing them to post in the introduce yourself section. When they join we send them a message to say please post in the intro section.

Once they have posted one message their we upgrade them to provisional member. We then send another PM to them and add a default avatar plus edit their account to add a pop up PM message so they get it as soon as they are upgraded.

Is there a way this can be all done easier than manually as it is getting difficult as we are getting around 100 new members a month and next year we are going to do some major advertising and expect to double that quota?

Well, actually there may be.

First thing, don't use PM.  Use e-mail.  An e-mail is sent to all new members, you can edit it by going to Languages/English/Register.lng.

Next, you can make a board that only new members (less than X amount of posts) can see.  Next, you can make other boards that only users with X or greater posts can see.  That way you don't have to go and change the member group, AND it's instant.  There's no waiting around for the user to be "upgraded".  Oh, and these are POST COUNT groups, not the regular old groups.

You can enable CAPTCHA to prevent users from joining that aren't human.
