Hi Guys, I've installed the software and everything works fine. One problem I am having is that after registering, I can only use the home page login panel using Username and Password. The other login panels come up with a failed login password. I've searched and can't find a similar problem. It doesn't seem to be a permissions issue because I can login fine on the home page. Any help would be most welcome. PS Love the software - thanks for you brilliant work Regards, Marty |

Arh... Just worked out the problem!! Login on using username and password works fine here /cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl Same login and password in this login panel fails /cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?v-login/ I worked out what the problem is. I used a 9 charater password which works on the 1st login location but failed on the second. I looked up the password in the file and it had been truncated to 8 characters without me knowing. Apparently there is no length limitation to a password during registration, but the password is then shortened to 8 characters without any warning. The registration page needs a character input restriction to limit the input to 8 characters. Example I registered with "marty0989" which worked fine. I can login with that, then without warning the password in truncated to "marty098" Who pinched my 9 ??? Needs a limit fix for input. simple to fix really. Thanks for getting back to me : Regards, marty |

Hi Justin, Oh.. Cool I'll do that then. Excellent piece of software. I'll send some money via PayPal soon. My account is zeroed out at the moment. When I get it up in the black I'll put through a donation. Hope others do the same. I appreciate your efforts. Regards, Marty |

Did you request a new password? If so, it should e-mail it to you. It will be a number, then you have to click on a link to reset the password. All that aside, here is an easy way to fix this problem. 1. Register a new user. 2. Login as that user. 3. figure out what that users # is. i.e. - 1.dat 5.dat...to do this, go to your newly registered user's member center and hover over the name on the left side link area. While you are hovering over the name, look at the address bar on the bottom of the screen. You will see something like http://www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/forum/Blah?v-memberpanel/a-view/u-??? (u-? is your dat #. 4. Ftp to your site, and go to your Prefs directory and edit (in ASCII mode) the file Ranks2.txt. 5. Where it says: Administrator => { .... ... manager = (1) members = (1) Add a your number after that 1 with a comma in between the two numbers, and save the file. 6. Go back to your forum and refresh your browser. 7. Go to your user list, find your regular admin, and go to his member center. On the left side, click on the Change Password link and type in the password that you want, confirm it, and save. 8. Log off, and then login as your normal admin. 9. If all is working, you can delete that new user. -Craig. |
