Hey all.

Since upgrade to 10 I've noticed no notifications are going out for new posts. Every board has at least some members 'watching' via the 'notify' option, and as admin I'm watching them all, but none are being sent.

Topic recommendations and reply notifications are working, so it's not an email issue per-se.

Anyone noticed this behaviour with 10?

Lucas.

Can you do that with boards? I thought you could only do that with threads?

Make sure that it's not ending up in a spam box.  Also know that new threads by you won't get sent to you.

Thanks Justin, yes I've checked that but I know that the messages aren't getting sent at all because I host the SMTP server inside my LAN and the logs show me the messages aren't getting that far (even though mailing lists, thread reply notifications, 'forgotten password' emails and recommendations are all working).

I thought I must have broken something when I edited the routines.pl and notify.pl to try to strip out the http://mydomain from the outgoing messages (I was having messages sent to my workplace blocked by a spam filter, about which I posted here), but I've since found that simply removing the http:// from the forum base address in the admin console seems to have 'worked around' that problem for now.

I'm wondering if I should just apply one of the latest nightlies. Do you have to run the setup.pl again if you replace your codebase?

Lucas.

Not *yet* you don't have to run Setup.pl.  But you should still run it just in case.

I'll add this to my list.

I tried the latest nightly, but not change at all.

Then I tried replacing the entire codebase with the originals from 10.05, but there has been no change at all.

I restored 9.71b from a backup (to a different server), and all notifications worked fine.

I'm stumped! Has nobody had any issues with new post notifications in 10.x? What is different between new post notifications and all the other notifications/emails sent by eBlah? Is it possible the routines relating to SMTP have been dropped from the code relating to new post notifications, but not the others?

If other people are running 10.05 and are using an SMTP server instead of Perl Sendmail, can you confirm that this is working?

I'm now certain it's nothing I've done because the codebase is back to original. I just haven't seen a single new post email generated in Ver 10.

Also my logs (eblah and web server) haven't revealed any Perl issues either.

I told you, I've added it to my list.    I just haven't had time to work on E-Blah lately (and no will to when I did have an hour or two to spare).  It'll get fixed soon.  The next release is scheduled for Oct. 1st, so we'll see.

Oh, sorry, I thought you were talking about needing to run setup.pl after a nightly.

I figured this should now be in the bugs board, so that's why I posted there after posting here.

Thanks Justin.

If it doesn't fix it, download BOARDID.mail from the boards directory, and post it's contents (in a [code] box) here.

Also, make SURE you read the board with your main ID and THEN post with another ID.  If the threads aren't read, it may not send you an e-mail.

Great.  I think what it was is there is a user ID 0 on your forum, and it was the first one in the mailing list.    That was like a false statement for the if's.

I can't see any 0's in the various 'boardid.mail' files, but in many of them there's a few blank lines at the top. Is this meant to be the case?

There aren't any 0.dat or 0.anything in the members directory either. Do you think it could be the blank lines?

Aaah, whatever it was, thanks for the quick fix.
