Hi,
I've just been thinking about the PM system and the way it works (or seems to work) currently.
The thing that I want to get at is if a 2 members have a longish conversation via pm's. It seems to me that if you hit reply it copies the message and then puts your message on the top of that (which is good so that you can see the messages beforehand when your viewing the latest reply). But wouldnt it be a more optimal way to do it (diskspace) to have the pm message more like a board thread, but only viewable between the two people? Each member can see every reply one one page and yet there is no need for the duplication of messages and messages with reply parts in your inbox and sent items folder. Like for instance a member replies to a message already started that message just changes the flag for the other member to unread.
If its possible to implement this into the eblah system I think it would be a profound update because my pm's seem to snowball, so 150kb of pm space is not really utilised.
Food for thought? Richard |

When you reply to a pm, it doesn't copy everything again. What you see in the window below the post box is just the history. E-Blah is just reading the history from your .pm file. So as far as disk space goes, it only increases when you type something new. Hope that makes sense. |

That's not right, actually. The replies are added upon sending. |

So what you are saying is that if I type a pm:
Hey, what is going on? ...someone replies Not much what is up with you? ...I reply I love E-Blah don't you? ...someone replies Of course, it is the greatest forum ever. ...then the .pm looks like this:
Hey, what is going on?
Not much what is up with you? Hey, what is going on?
I love E-Blah don't you? Not much what is up with you? Hey, what is going on?
Of course, it is the greatest forum ever. I love E-Blah don't you? Not much what is up with you? Hey, what is going on?
????
That is not how it used to work. |

Wow! You are right...of course . I just checked my .pm log from my main forum that I run, and one PM is repeated in there like 10 times, and you are right, it is very messy |
