I understand, It means so he/she can allow guests to post on the forum but wants captcha on each guest post to stop bots posting. So whenever a user tries to post a comment or thread when they are not logged in they will need to enter the captcha. I think....

Thanks for replying... I enabled guest posting sure enough spam posts appeared within a couple of hours. but now as you suggest I enabled Akismet with an ASP key from word press. However nothing shows, do you have to download the plugin or is that already in the eblah code. Or am I missing something obvious?

Quoted from Justin
This is a document for versions of E-Blah newer than Platinum 9.71 and is the offical document for CAPTCHA in E-Blah 10.0.

There is a new feature in E-Blah that allows administrators to request that their members are, indeed, members and not computers.  This is best known as captcha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha).

To use this feature in E-Blah you must be using Platinum 9.71 or higher and have the following two modules installed:

- MD5
- GD

Does the Platinum bit mean that that Captcha is not available in the free version of E-Blah.

All E-Blah is free. There is no paid version. Platinum is a very old release. Latest releases are simply a number.

I could not get cpatcha to work on  my production system. It is a pain to debug so I have a test system. However the test system is completely non-graphical and I appear not to have the libgd library there and I cannot install the GD perl module. For now I am just putting this very low down on the TODO list.

I tried the Akismet mod so I could have a short-term forum where guests can post questions (rather than registering and never showing up again). However I as the administrator got rejected as posting spam.

Edit Actually it occurs to me that the issue may have been that altough I (as administrator) and I (as guest) may have been using different machines etc, to askismet we appeared to have the same IP address.

Hi,

sorry to be a pain but i am new to all this...

i have just setup E-Blah on my website which is hosted by heartinternet.com

the forum is running brilliant were all getting used to it. my problem is i need the human verification
as when we was using phpbb we were flooded with spammers..

i have uploaded the cgi bin files gd and prefs font.   i've added the Random and chmod folders and changed these to 777 and enabled the human verification option.

but when you go to register all i get is a rectangle with the white square with red cross in it..

please can you tell my what i've done wrong or need to do..

keep up the good work.. think this is a great forum!

Kevin

Looks like you haven't installed the GD::Security Image Module.

Look here:

http://www.eblah.com/alldownloads.php

Download, unzip and upload the GD folder to your forum folder.
