Have you changed the $blahURL in  chat_settings.pl to point at your cgi-bin? For example
$blahURL = "/var/www/cgi-bin/";

Another question:
I've installed the chat successfully on one forum, but am having problems with a second. I think I've done everything the same way. Sigh.

I'm getting an 'error on page' from the browser on clicking the login button.

OK, forget my extra question. I started from scratch and it works now. Must have done something daft.

Hmm, is there a way to make it display the current screen name rather than the user's initial registration name?

FTP to your site and download chat-settings.pl and chat.pl to your pc.

Open chat settings.pl in wordpad and find this line:

@settings = @temp;

Add this after it:

$screenname = $settings[1];

Save and close the file.

Now open Chat.pl in wordpad and find this line:

$chatHandle = param('chatHandle', $chatHandle=> $username);

and change it to:

$chatHandle = param('chatHandle', $chatHandle=> $screenname);

Find this line:

<input type="hidden" name="chatHandle" value=$username>

and change it to:

<input type="hidden" name="chatHandle" value=$screenname>

Save and close the file.

Now upload in ASCII to your cgi-chat folder overwriting the originals.

If you get stuck then send me a pm.

Thank you very much.

I seem to have hit a different problem. Background: I have a members forum and a committee forum running on the same site. I'm trying to install chat so we can have real-time online committee meetings.

I realised it was picking up my chat ID from the members forum cookie when it should have been the committee forum, so I changed $cookpre in the settings file to pick up from the correct cookie. Now the chat is insisting that I'm not logged in. I've double checked that the cookie name is the same in eBlah admin and in chat-settings, and it's there in my cookie files. Any bright ideas? Sorry to be a pain.

Edit: It works if I set both eBlah and chat-settings back to default. Maybe I'm doing something stupid as usual.

First, if you changed the cookie then make sure you have logged out then clear your cache and cookies.

There are 2 files that use the eblah cookie

chat-settings.pl - $cookpre = qq*eblah*;

and chat.pl - my $username = $cookies{'eblah_un'}->value if $cookies{'eblah_un'};

Have you changed both?

Me again. The login's all sorted - thanks.

Yet another question   - shouldn't chat-text.pl be using $chatRefreshTime to set the refresh rate for chat.htm rather than having it set permanently to 10?

Hiya. Is there any way to block access by people who are still at Registration Level?

Sorry for the delay and to answer your first question about $chatRefreshTime, this was done intentionally as this part refreshes a different frame to the rest and after testing fixing it to 10 seconds was the best.

As for the 2nd question, there is no way of disabeling for members awaiting validation as the login looks at the Members database for authentication and members who are awaiting validation to have full accounts.

On that note, I will have a look over the weekend and see if I can come up with something for you.

Here you go rattycorner:

Find this line at the top of chat.pl

Code
if ($username eq '') {

and change it to this:

Code
if ($username eq '' || $settings[23] eq 'EMAIL') {

I have also attached a modified login.htm
