I noticed with most upgrades there seems to be bugs following... so i have a question.

I want to upgrade from 9.0.  Would anyone have a suggestion as to what version to upgrade to along with a comprehensive bug list along a link to the fixes?

Maybe have a sticky thread for each version from 9.0 onward under this board (or somewhere) that links to all the bug fix threads?

thanks much!

If you're waiting for software without bugs before you upgrade... well, you won't be upgrading anything (or be involved in in the nuclear industry).

Generally, install the latest revision of any package you're interested in. It will contain bug fixes etc. for all the previous versions, and supercede them. Bugs in the new version are a fact of life, undesirable, but they will relate to new functions, rather than old.

Bear in mind also that the old version will no longer be supported to the same extent, as the developer will be devoting their time to the current version, not fixing the obsolete ones back to release 1.0.0

I think it's fair to say (having been using E-Blah from the first release of v9) that the vast majority of bugs are non-critical  (many seem to be host, operating system and browser related, rather than source), and it's pretty well refined by the time an official release is made, and I've used the unofficial release with no hiccups.

Wow.  Couldn't have said it better.

I will add a little though ...

Most bugs have solutuions (such as the 500 Admin Center, just delete the .htaccess file in the Code directory), but some have been fixed with 9.6.  I hope to release 9.6 before Christmas to address a few bugs and add the new feature a lot want (quick edit).

9.5 fixed over 10 bugs with the prior versions (plus many more that were left undocumented).  The speed ratio was vasty improved.  This alone is reason enough to upgrade.

Hope this answeres your questions.

And I thought somebody would have spotted the deliberate mistake and said "will relate to" should really have been "will tend to relate to"

Over time I have found that the real reason anyone upgrades to a new version is because they want new features.  Bugs are a fact of life, but I think with E-Blah there are fewer than most because instead of 10 or 15 people writing code for it, it is just Justin.

9.5 is stable and more secure than previous versions of P9.  Yes there are bugs, but they are minor ones.  If there was a critical bug, Justin would post the fix on here right away.

the extra slash in the admin's validation email went away... but now the validation email the new member gets is missing some parts and pieces:

I get this: http://domain.com/cgi-bin/bbv-register/a-validate/id-999999999/u-test/

This behavior is also found in the "Forgot Password" email... /bbv-login/... not good since everyone on the board has to reset their password due to the encryption conversion.

What's funny is these emails worked dandy before turning on mod_rewrite.

Any suggestions... in other words HELP!!!

ok... did that... still no joy with the click here link on the password reset or validation emails. I also checked the Settings.pl file... no trailing slash as indicated if mod_rewrite is turned ON.

should i just turn back OFF the mod_rewrite?

Maybe this will help:

My .htaccess looks like this (mod_rewrite):
Code
Options All Indexes
IndexOptions FancyIndexing
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /forum
RewriteRule ^(.*) /cgi-bin/bb/Blah.pl?$1

And the lines in Blah.pl looks like this:
Code
$scriptname = '';
$modrewrite = '/forum/'; # mod_rewrite: on = '' | off = '?'

And the setting for the Global url looks like this:
Code
$realurl = "http://mydomain.com/cgi-bin/bb";

* the "mydomain.com" has the real url in it... i just put "mydomain.com" in the above for instructional purposes.

I've went to settings and resaved like instructed, clicked "Forgot Password" and still got the .../bbv-login/p-forgotpw3/... in the click here in the received email.

any help would be appreciated. thanks.

$scriptname = '';
$modrewrite = '/forum/'; # mod_rewrite: on = '' | off = '?'

This should be switched.  $modrewrite should be off (read the comments).

After you've done that, go to Admin/Settings/Directories/Save.

forgive my ignorance... but i'm not following you.

what should be switched where... and what comments are you refering too? i read the mod rewrite thread... but i seem to be missing something.

Addendum:

I had to add the trailing slash in the Global url in the Settings.pl as did a few other people here. Now the links work.

another thing i changed, which wasn't very clear in the mod rewrite instructions, was changing the Global URL from http://mydomain.com/cgi-bin/bb/ to http://mydomain.com/forum/

It didn't seem to make a difference with the board, really... but it may have caused some confusion in this thread as to whether i had the mod_rewrite ON or OFF.

The result of changing Blah.pl (above) and Settings.pl (no trailing slash in Global):

Change Password now has /forum/forum/ in the email link.
Forum Validation now has /forum/forum/ in the email link.

Quoted from admin
Code
$scriptname =  '/forum/';
$modrewrite = ''; #mod_rewrite: on = '' | off ='?'

that isn't what is listed here??
