How about changing the registration process to ask several questions normally found in the Member Profile area so the system can automatically set these profile fields when the member joins.  ex: time zone, etc.

This is already being done to some degree with username and email address.  Couldn't it just be expanded to include other profile fields?

Many people are so anxious to start posting that they don't even know the Member profile options exist.
