Several weeks ago e-mails, sent by the server, started to be sent about the server hard disks becoming unstable (in other words, no longer any good). On Tuesday, we decided to let the people who actually own the physical server fix these problems by taking the server down (at 3AM, CST). To put a long story short, the four hours we had planned for the server to be down did not happen. We had to upload our backups to the server (with new hard disks) manually. This caused a little problem, as it took a lot of time to complete. After that had been down there were a few problems getting the DNS back up and running (IP problems), but that has, obviously, since been fixed as well. Everything should be working fine as if nothing occurred, but if anyone notices anything out of place just let me know. The backups were complete, so there was little change on the web end (and no data loss). I keep backups of the server from every few weeks to few months on my other server; but this was a planned “downage” so everything was backed up before it went down. As of this writing my e-mail is still down (I hope to have that fixed soon). Any e-mails sent while the server was down did not reach me (and for some reason I don't think they bounced back, either). For those who missed the downage page: Downage (this page was shown before and right after the server went down). God Bless! |
