i want something where if a user signs up, it will automatically give them a default avatar that i assign (until they change it). and the mod would also give users already signed up who dont have an assigned avatar, the default avatar. can this be done?

i had this installed on my 9.71b forum. Am now running the 9.75 from 14 May, and it doesn't work anymore as the underlying code changes are significant. I just haven't got a clue how to implement it in this one

It is actually a lot easier now.  Just edit Register.pl and do a search for this:

Code 'sn'

...and add a new line under that one that looks like this:

Code 'avatar'      => "http://www.yoursite.com/blahdocs/Avatars/path/to/file.jpg",

Of course you know to change that to the correct path.  Justin, if this is wrong, let me know.

ta muchly!! it set the avatar to my default maximum sizes, so i tried to set the avatar size. it only sets the height though?

tried various things, breaking the script along the way
if i knew what i was doing i'd be dangerous
i'm just being picky now coz i don't like distorted images.

All was right but an extra ' was missing.

Ok, same drill.  Edit Regester.pl and do a search for this:

Code 'sn'

after that line add these two lines:

Code 'avatar'     => "http://www.yoursite.com/blahdocs/Avatars/path/to/file.jpg", 'avatarsize' => "100|100",

That should work for ya.  Of course 'avatarsize' should be set to what ever width and height you want the image to show up as, and the site name should be what you want it to be.

yeah - i spotted the missing '.

but what i mean is my default.gif is 71 x 62, but it resizes to 120 x 120 which is my maximum, so how to i put that in?

i tried:
'avatarsize' => 71, 62,
'avatarsize' => 71 | 62,
'avatarsize' => 71 || 62,

but it only picks up the 71 and sets it as height

Yeah, you need to put quotes around 71|62.

update: I have successfully implemented the avatar size, but it wants height then width. ('61|72') to correctly render 72x61. just for info.

seems good so far. a lot more logical.

i'm not really a hard core programmer - i just know enough to get the gist of what's going on and then cause untold damage - you learn loads that way!!

i'd figured out this section of register.pl was where i needed to put stuff, i just didn't quite know what stuff!!
