i've had users have problems with the current way attachments are handled. when a user clicks an attachment it is taken to a page where the file is then downloaded after 5 seconds. some users state they never get the download option and then some users state that the file they downloaded (for example .jar extension files for cellphones) are automatically turned into .zip extentions and therefore can be reuploaded to their cellphone.

is there anyway or option to eliminate the download page and just provide the users with a straight to download link without edited the file with a .zip extension when they download it?

thank you!

Don't know about the zip part... but in Message Display find this:

$downloads = qq~<b>$messagedisplay[12]:</b> <a href="$scripturl,v=download,f=$_" target="download">$_</a><br><b>$nump</b> $messagedisplay[46] &nbsp; - &nbsp; <b>$messagedisplay[47]:</b> $size $type</td><td align="center" valign="top">$attachments2~;

and try replacing it with this:

$downloads = qq~<b>$messagedisplay[12]:</b> <a href="$uploadurl/$URL{'f'}" target="download">$_</a><br><b>$nump</b> $messagedisplay[46] &nbsp; - &nbsp; <b>$messagedisplay[47]:</b> $size $type</td><td align="center" valign="top">$attachments2~;

I don't know if this will work, so try it out immediately and if it doesn't give a direct link to attachments in messages, I'll have another try.  Let me see the URL you try it on too.

Doesn't really matter if they are or not.  They're currently in there which is why I pasted them in.

Did the solution work ?

This is actually MOST LIKELY a MIME issue with your webserver.  Adding .jar files to a .htaccess file may fix this.  Just do a Google search on the matter.

Add the following to your .htaccess file, which SHOULD be in your uploads DIR.

Code
AddType application/octet-stream        bin dms lha lzh exe class w02 w03 w04 cab jar dzl

What Ryan said is the only way to do it.  If you don't want it in a new window then delete target="download".

no when i did it the way ryan did all it did was open up the forum homepage in a new window.  i dont mind a new window, but all that code does is direct the users to the forum front homepage WITHOUT any download link.

is there a way i can force a file to automatically right click itself and download? because when trying to download m4a or aac files, realplayer or quicktime loads and the only way to download it to push the back button and press stop and then right click the 'Click here' link on the page that says the download will start within 5 seconds. is there a mime code that i can use to prevent streaming of certain files and instead force them to download?

Umm, add them like a .exe I guess?  I'm really not sure.  I don't believe you made the right modification, make sure you did because the mod he wrote wouldn't do any redirecting.

it doesnt really redirect. when the user clicks the download link, instead of the download it just sends them to the front page
