Ok, I think I can probably do this, it is just going to take a while.  The big problem is that once a new version of eBlah comes out I would have to redo everything again, so I am NOT going to be upgrading often at all, if I do this.

As mentioned, I don't want to switch from eBlah.  The features, speed and stability are fantastic!  The killer part though is the statistics, as everyone here knows.  I don't want to give that up.

In order to do this I would have to change all of the tables in the eBlah code directory to get rid of most of the multi-column parts.  For the PDA, the most should really be 2 columns.  The attached pics show what I have done so far.

Justin, to incorporate more flexibility in the templates you would probably have to take out the table structure in the code and leave all of it to the templates.  I don't know how doable that would be but I think that would allow for a LOT more control over templates.  Of course, that would mean a very major overhaul, so I doubt it'll happen anytime soon, if at all.

I was doing a bit of reading about advanced CSS formatting.  Would it be possible to use CSS a lot more for templates/layout?  Well, I know it's possible to do, but is that something that you might consider for eBlah?

For those that haven't seen this, here is an article about creating table-like pages using only CSS: http://www.webreference.com/authoring/style/sheets/layout/advanced/

I am probably going to go ahead with reworking all of the eBlah code HTML, but it's a big job, especially for a non-programmer, like myself.  Plus, I still have to spend time with the family and run my site.

That does look good.  I've thought about adding more CSS and all, but everytime I add just a little CSS some people don't like it because they've got to edit their template.  The huge problem with CSS is that there would be so many variables in the template that some people may feel that they don't know how to even begin editing.

As far as what you're doing -- you will still be able to upgrade as long as there is no updates to the database (major updates).  You'll just need to keep the two forums running seperately.  Also, you could get rid of the images by disabling the buttons (not sure if you'd want to do that though).  Also, some links and buttons and features could possibly be removed from the mobile forum.  If you need any help just let me know and I'll try to guide you in the right way to go with it.

Cool, thanks Justin.

Ya, I figured that a wholesale use of CSS is a MAJOR change and people would have to start from scratch with their current themes.  At least from reading that tutorial it looks like editing would not be too difficult.  The layout would get fairly complex but changing attributed would be just as simple.

On the mobile version, as much as possible, I was to keep the features all there.  I will simplify some stuff but want to keep most.  I will probably drop the site, e-mail, pm images because users can just click the author's name for their profile.

If you want to check in on my progress I will be doing it at sma.hyspex.com, not my main site.

BTW, Hyspex is awesome!!

So far I am concentrating on the MessageDisplay file and will then do the others.

Thanks again for offering to help if I get stuck.

Don't know if this will help at all, but here is a pretty good article about how to create (or modify) a website for wireless access.  It shows how to use HTML, XHTML, and CSS to do this.

http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/wireless/library/wi-css/?ca=dgr-lnxw01WirelessPages

Pretty good article and makes a lot of sense.

Ya, I've been using the xhtml version and it is fairly good.  I might just use that with a link.  I haven't really been doing much more with the conversion as it would really be a pain to update the site afterward.

Thanks Justin.
