My forum is about mobile devices and was wondering if there is any simple way of creating a theme for small screens.
I think one way that would work would be to modify the News template but that will change it for all themes - no good.
I would like the posts to really show more like a column rather than side-by-side cells. The image attached show a popular mobile gear site's format.
Is there any way to do this, or plans to offer something like this? I want to use themes so that users can choose between a mobile one and full desktop theme.
TIA.

You can't do that with Themes... but you could do it by having two Code directories using the same data... but with one a modified version of eblah. Modifying it would be a HUGE task though |

I'll have to decide if it worth doing and get back to you. This site is really more hobby than anything and I don't like to spend anything on it if I can help it. |

Been thinking of this a bit and was wondering how to do this. As long as I could do this without interrupting my site I am willing to tinker with it.
Would it be possible to do a second eblah install in a different directory that still uses the main messages directory for content? If so, would I have to basically edit every file in the code directory to access the current content directory?
It seems like this would all be possible but I don't really know perl so I am limited with my ability to make changes. If it is just changing a few path pointers it may not be too bad.
I could then change the news template to fit small screens and adjust the themes as needed.
How doable would this be? |

Would it work to just change the "Directories and Web Addresses" section of a new install? |

I love using eBlah but am frustrated with trying to figure out how to do a mobile-friendly version of my forums. Since it a mobile tech site it only makes sense to have a mobile version.
Does anyone have any ideas for me? I REALLY don't want to but I am about to give up! I love eBlah and am constantly amazed at Justin's hard work as well at the mods here, so I don't want to leave eBlah but I just have to have a mobile version of my site.
I have noticed that other forum software allows for the creation of themes that will allow a columner view which does the trick nicely.
Please, oh PLEASE, does anyone have a suggestion? |

You might be able to find some good deals on eBay, especially after Christmas. You could get a Toshiba e740 which includes WiFi for about $100 or a Dell Axim x5 with WiFi for about the same. You could get an Axim x30 with WiFi for about $150. One very sweet device is the iPaq 4155. It includes WiFi and Bluetooth and is so slim and sleek!! It is going to under $200 here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ.....930?%5Fencoding=UTF8I know it can be a bit much for some, but it might be less than you were thinking. If you think there is any chance of you getting one please let me know. If not, I am probably going to have to switch forum software. I TRULY don't want to as I think eBlah is the best but I have users asking me regularly about this. Thanks Justin. |

Have you tried altering your template? Do the phones support gzip compression? |

Ya, i've played with the template but can't get what I need from that. As you will see in my first post I need the table to show in a column rather than having the user name to the left. I created a template that is a minimal as you can get. Simply a graphic then the blah code. No tables but the Blah code of course has tables. I could try moderating the output of the code bit that would be a LOT of work. Plus, upgrading to a new version would mean starting all over again. Other forum software handles this buy including the complete layout components separate from the code. You can change the templates and the code is not affected. As for gzip, do you if the forum has gzip turned on? I tried my site using gzip and it didn't work at all. I had to edit the settings back through ftp. So, I don't know if gzip works on it. Actually, I thought thast was a server thing, not browser. <shrug> what do I know? |
