I just don't like it that much... I think PHP is much much easier to learn. I spent 3 months looking at perl and never wrote a single script and  I wanted to badly. With PHP, I've written around 20 of them. lol :p

Yep.  Some things are easier with PHP than is with PERL.  Like making a website ... use PHP.  Perl is crap for websites.  But for some things, such as AOL bots or IRC bots use Perl.

it can be confusing.  they say perl is a write-only language - it accepts so many forms of syntax, and tasks can be condensed so well, that its hard to decifer after the fact (even if you are the one that wrote it)

a great book to start with is "perl by example" or (of course) the oreilly books...

Well i am on eblah 9 at the moment so if i get it working i will let you know!

Thread necromancy:

I just gave it a try, works fine on eblah 9.

And for those that said php is easier for them to learn than perl... it seems the opposite to me. I never could really get the hang of php, but I picked perl up quickly.

Same here, but they are both very simular.  Most PHP code isn't formatted nicely so you can read and understand it.
