This will be a thread I'll add to, which will show some of the new features of P9.

First and formost is the new Member Groups.  The old form is out, the new is in.  This will be one of the largest core changes, or I think ... hope ... lol.

Secondly is the Themes manager.  Totally rebuilt, from the ground up.  There will be no more 1900 style themes ... we're talking about '05 themes now.  

Next we move on to Journals.  Yes, journals, or blogs (they'll be called blogs probably, or something more catchy, I donno).  I've not started any programming yet, but they're coming.

Smiley sets.  Something new here, but this would make it so users can change the default smilies in use.  This might not be put in.  lol

PM outbox?  Edit messages that are sent to members if they've not read them yet?  This may not be done.

And several other changes (I'll add other major, and minor ones, in replies ).

Some minor changes will be ... fixing the edit list.

Next will be ... adding a "total forum online time" (if I can figure out a good way to implement this).  This will keep a total count each login to how long you've been logged into the system.  Of course it won't be "totally" accurate, but heh ... it'll be close enough.  lol

Closing polls.  Yeah, it's a feature needed, I hope to add this.

Help center.  I might add this, but I might make it editable via the Admin center.

Deleting member(s) require that you either input the password of the member, or input the admin password.  There may also be an option to disable members from deleteing their self automatically.

Move all {MESSAGEID}.mail files into a new directory so that when finding notifications it doesn't search the entire /Messages DIR, this will increase speed and use less resources on the server.

Anyway ... I hope this still sounds good.    I hope to change a lot of it for the next version, this is just a glimps.  I've not worked on the code for like 2 weeks though ... .  Sometimes I'm just not in the mood, and I haven't been lately, lol.  But I'll get back to it soon.  Anyway, I'm off to bed shortly!

I almost forgot to add the best of the new features ... .  A setup script!

I've worked a little on it, but I might make it where it automatically creates the directories and does all the CHMODing and all (minus the Blah.pl, Setup.pl, /Code and /Languages, and all the stuff in http_docs).  But that is just something else in store for P9.


Finally ... the release date.

I've not got one, and I'm not going to be rushed.    I'm trying for a date in May, as that's when I graduate high school, and thought I'd be good to tie that with such a big release.

You'll notice "blog" has been added to the menu up top ... lol.  It's not completed yet, I just wanted everyone to be able to watch it as it grows.    You'll see the little box on all the pages of it though, which says that it's under development.

Yeah I clicked it maybe 20 minutes ago and I just clicked it again and now it says "Click here to post"   Can't wait at all.. I've been wanting a perl blog.

The name blog I heard and saw a lot of. Maybe i do know what it is under another name.

Can someone please explain what it is?   I know its something to do with journals, but some ppl design entire web sites around it.

It would be really cool if you could include the blog in the same way as the news feature.

It'll probably have RSS features, yes.  It needs to have it's own template probably, but I'm not sure how I'm going to do that yet.    We'll just have to wait and see.

This all sounds great.  One thing i would like to see is a view posts since last visit option this is something i realllly need.

Also a arcade feature would be awsome (but i dont need that...)

One question i have is whats the difference between the blog and the normal posting of a topic?

Blogs are for members only, and only the member who OWNs the blog can post new "topics" in it.  Then people can add comments.  Of course this will be able to be turned off in Admin Center.

By everyone's profile now.  This should update and work, but it might not work just right (at first anyway).  But lets hope it does.  

The time will be a total of how long you've been logged in (added up over time).
