Hi all, I have been using eblah for about a year now and am LOVING IT! I was able to install it without any problems and it has been ROCK SOLID! My site is about mobile technology in the workplace: http://smartmobileassets.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b=,v=portalI am still running with version 7, mainly because I don't want to have to recreate my portal page. There are just over 2000 messages and 150 members. It's not huge but it ain't too shabby. I think I am going to wait on updating until version 9, unless someone here feels there is a significant feature I can gain by updating to 8. Let me know. Justin, thanks for all of your hard work. eBlah is fantastic! |

I'd wait for version 9 unless you think you are missing out on something. |

That was my thinking too. I'm sure there are a bunch of little things that are better about 8 I just hate to shut down the site for ANY amount of time.
I like the sounds of the new Group membership thingy. That is one of the things I would like to have beefed up. I have both moderators and contributors and I would like them to have different access but with a lot of overlap.
Thanks Craig.

One thing that is different from P7 to P8 is changing from BlahImages to blahdocs. It might be worth your time and server space to set up a P8.3 board somewhere on your server so you can see how it works. There are also programs out there that will compare two files for and tell you what is different. So if you wanted to see what changed between the P7 potal (original code not yours) and the P8.3 portal you could. It would help you to convert your P7 portal.pl and portal.lng file. I user Merge made by Araxis. A very nice tool for comparing files Not a plug for them, but if you want to give it a try their web address is http://www.araxis.com. For example, for the portal.pl file there are 2 removals, 3 insertions, and 70 changes. Most of the changes are html stuff that would be transparent to you. However, between 8.3 and 9 (so far ), there have only been 2 removals and two changes. This means that you could move to 8.3 now with out major changes later. There are only 2 insertions in the language file between P7 and P9 Hope that helps you decide -Craig |

Thanks for the extra info Craig. Actually, all of my changes are to the HTML anyway. I leave the perl stuff to Justin. Actually, it wouldn't be a big deal for me to make the change now but I don't see any huge reasons to. I think that I will wait for version 9 as it sounds like there may be some good stuff cookin'. Thanks Craig. Thanks for comment Justin. Cheers, |
