On our board, we are having problems with 3-5 users in one of the forums who are constantly posting garbage we don't want there. We can't ban them though because they are on AOL and we would have to ban ALL AOL users due to their IP recycling, and that would affect people we DON"T want to ban...

The problem now is that unless we manuallly place ALL but the mods, admins, and those 3 users into a separate user group, we can't keep JUST them from accessing it... Using a password obviously wouldn't work either because someone could tell them the password easily enough.

Any help here would be MUCH appreciated.

For the first thing, ban their usernames.  You could also go to Member Center/Admin and disable their account.

Next, turn off guest posting.

Finally, ban the first 3 octetcs of their ip address, like 127.0.0  (notice the ending .1 is not there).  That should ban closer to their particular network (or the part of the network THEY use, I mean  ).

with AOl users this will be challenging as they usually go through what appears to be regional proxy servers.  Most of the users I have banned I found had 6-9 IP's and most entirely different.

Well ... with Proxys, it's always hard to get them.
