Hello Justin,

I tried to translate all E-Blah interface quotes into polish language, after translating admin section i tried to execute "admin section" to see how it looks and it didn't execute at all. The message appears, saying:

There was a problem loading a part of the E-Blah software. The system administrator may be upgrading this forum. If you continue to receive this error after several minutes, please contact the system administrator. Further information relating to this incident is below (file information).

./Languages/English/Admin.lng

Unrecognized character \xF3 at ./Languages/English/Admin.lng line 12.
Compilation failed in require at /var/set/virtual/epropage.and.pl/konta/epropage/www/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl line 73.

I used polish characters during translation, as "œŸæó¹ê³" and it's the source of my problem. Please help me with that!

Hi epropage,

I have face this problem before while I write the chinese language pack.

The error message could mean one thing...

Perl could not regognise the characters you used to construct your Polish characters and hence could not process the file Admin.lng This cause the forum to stop loading and generate error messages.

One common reasons that could have caused this:

1. You have saved the lanuage file in unicode formate and upload them to your server in ASCII format.

I believe that you used MS IME to imput your Polish language? Or when you save the files, the option "unicode" is selected.

I am not sure if the input method for Polish allows ASCII input without corupting the file. But please try inputing / saving the language file as ASCII format. Reasons being:

1. Unicode files needs to be upload in binary format, which is not allow in perl files. Upload them in ASCII format will corrupt them.

2. Language files need to be saved as ASCII and upload in ASCII for perl to recognise and work properly.

As I am unfamiliar with Polish language and their input methods, I can only gave a surface explanation. Please try out and keep us posted.

I hope these helps!

oh, I forgot. In case you want to repair your disfunctioned forum and revert back to English language,

Access your forum using FTP and delete the Admin.lng. Reuplad it with the English version. Your forum should be working again.

If you never replace the english version, and upload the polish files in another folder, then just delete the whole folder will do.

Hello again,

Thanks for Your help for now...here comes the new enligtment:

It's quite strange that some files i translated fully like Calendar, MessageIndex etc.
and executed E-Blah it worked fine. I have used the same critical polish characters
as in admin language files. So what the hell is going on here?

I think, that all engine is great, works fast with style. I'll find my way thru this silly
error. I have edited all these files with standard notepad, and i'm really into coding
since i am the webdesigner. So there is no problem with misunderstanding of Unicode, ASCII and all this stuff.

Now i'll go on with translation and maybe other files will work well too. Admin panel
is not that important, becouse i'm the admin and i know english quite well, so I will
manage to configure it by myself. But my visitors are "english impaired" so i really do need this translation to be done.

If You will find any ideas of what is going on, don't bother... we can exchange our opinions

Lookin' forward for Your replies

Oh, do this ... on line 12 of Admin.lng, change the ' (both of them) to ", if that doesn't work, try changing it into this:

qq~(txt goes here)~;

Hope you understand what I mean.

Hi There,

I came just to mention, that there is some progress in my translation.Up to this time I translated 10 lng files... and... what a surprise... admin.lng is now also translated. After tracking the wrong translated file few times i found what was wrong.

In Polish language, when we are making an adjective from a foreign name, we use
this sign:  '

So when we ant to say that something is Microsoft related we would write that it's
Windows'owe

So all quotes starting from ' and ending with ' were wrong when such a word came into play. Now i'am using other names tahn earlier, and it's not an character compatiblity issue - it's my-stupidity-related issue.

I've made some beta tests for my translation... it's hard becouse english words are usually in one form

for example:

pink car    -  ró¿owy samochód
pink love  -  ró¿owa mi³oœæ

it's related to male and female words... englisg is straight, and polish is
abnormally complicated:

this is my car          -              to jest mój samochód
i don't like my car    -    nie lubiê mojego samochodu
i'll do it to my car    -    zrobie to mojemu samochodowi
he is in the car        -                on jest w samochodzie

So in english it's always only a car, but in polish it has different layout for every single meaning. A part of word is always the same, but ending is always different!

That is the reason why it's so hard to translate something into polish.

OK, wake up all of you, i know that was boring, but i tried to give You an idea of what i'm doing all this time to accomplish my aim.

I will inform You if any progress will happen!

so some sentences using external variables are hard to match each other.

There are many reasons why things dun work out. I am glad that you've find the reasons. Sorry if I could not provide much help as I am not fully acquainted with your problems. Yah, the ' character sometimes do give problems. In javascript we usually use backslash. I am not sure about perl though.

I am also facing problems with the language grammar rules in chinese translation too. I am trying my best to rephrase the phase as close as possible. There are times I am forces to leave the variable blank so that the sentence may sound smooth. Have not tried out yet. I expect more changes when I test the pack. I leave certain terms as English as here are really no such word in Chinese to represent that term.

Well, good luck with your translation!
